Mary Queen of the Holy Rosary School
A half day Kindergarten program was established at Mary Queen of the Holy Rosary School in 1968 and developed into a full day program in 2003. Our developmentally appropriate program offers a high-quality traditional curriculum.
Our classrooms are staffed by certified teachers that hold Masters Degrees in Elementary Education along with full day instructional assistants. The teachers strive to make the child-friendly classrooms an engaging environment where children can safely explore, experiment and practice their emerging skills using hands on materials. Differentiated instruction meets the specific needs of each of these young children and creates a nurturing Christ centered environment that is caring and loving.
Our primary mission is to provide a religious environment in which children will learn to practice their faith. The curriculum covers the core content areas of religion, language arts, mathematics, science and social studies. These programs are enriched by physical education, Spanish language, computer, music, art and guidance classes. For curricular enhancement we offer field trips to the Philharmonic, Apple Orchard, Arboretum, and Lexington Children’s Theatre. Special kindergarten events include our annual Thanksgiving pageant and feast, an end of year picnic at the park, and our seventh grade buddy program.
The Faith First, Religion curriculum fosters a love of God and neighbor as children develop as Catholic Christians. Catholic Identity is promoted by celebrating Church traditions. Kindergartners pray daily, attend Mass weekly, and learn many traditional prayers as well as the Rosary.
The Language Arts curriculum contains components that are high in phonemic awareness, phonics instruction, reading comprehension, vocabulary and writing development. The majority of Kindergartners are reading at or above grade level when they advance to first grade.
The Everyday Math program emphasizes problem solving skills based on everyday situations. The children learn through age appropriate playful activities using a variety of hands on math manipulatives.
The interactive science and social studies curriculum enhances children’s knowledge of the world around them, including activities that teach the importance of membership in a family, classroom and community. Science activities teach a variety of concepts from life science, earth science and physical science.
The goal of the teachers is to provide continuous learning experiences each day that evolve from the children’s needs and experiences. The classrooms are very dynamic and active.
