MCCLC Spring 2007 The Spring 2007 meeting of the MCCLC took place on April 27th in Jennings Library of Caldwell College, New Jersey. Our speaker was Sister Elizabeth Michael Boyle, O.P. Sister began teaching at Caldwell College in 1969 and chaired the English Dept. from 1995-2001. However, since that time she has devoted herself to writing. Her interests include theology, science and literature, especially poetry. In 2004, her first book Preaching the Poetry of the Gospels won a 1st place award from the Catholic Press Association. Her next book, Science as Sacred Metaphor, was reviewed by John Naught, Distinguished Professor, Dept. of Theology, Georgetown University, who said, “This work is a sparkling contribution to contemporary conversations about science and its relationship to faith and theology.” Cleverly, Sister Elizabeth Michael wove the threads of these ideas into a captivating talk that addressed the issues of librarianship, reading and education. As April is National Poetry Month, she fittingly included many of her poems which were at times thought provoking, humorous and touching. Following this, the group proceeded to the Motherhouse of the Dominican Sisters where Sister Helen Marguerite showed us the community’s Archives and a small museum tracing the history of the Dominican Order. The day ended with a lovely lunch at Luce, a nearby restaurant.
