John Patrick dela Cruz, Coordinator, SENIORS In celebration of twenty years of doing little things with extraordinary love, the Children of Mary (COM) Cenacle of Prayer and Life Community conducted its 161st Basic Mariology Class at the 3rd floor of San Roque Cathedral Pastoral Center last Octobers 18 and 19, 2008. Participated in by some seventy Catholics, the short seminar aims to bring forth the dynamic and special role of Mary in God’s plan of salvation to humankind. The two day class was divided into several sessions; each was handled by Marian devotees themselves – Bro. Benjamin G. Sabater talked about “Plan of God” and the “Role of Mary in God’s Plan”, Sis. Josefina D. Jacob expounded on the concept of Mary as “Mother of God”, Sis. Aida V. Sabater discussed the notion of “Perpetual Virginity”, Sis. Mary Lou S. Cobingco refreshed the crowd on “The Holy Rosary”, Bro. Honorato G. Sabater meanwhile explained the meanings of “The Cenacle” and “Mystery of the Assumption”, Sis. Dalisay R. Sy enlightened the participants on the “Immaculate Conception”, and finally, Bro. Raul S. Roque spoke about Mary as “Mediatrix of All Grace.” Aside from the lectures, the seminar also paved way for establishing deeper communication with the Lord and the Blessed Mother through the introduction of the cenacle – an intimate and solemn group prayer. It is the challenge of the Mariology classes, according to Bro. Benjamin G. Sabater, President of COM, that the message of love of Mother Mary be realized and replicated to the other members of the Christian Community especially to the less fortunate, while at the same time, deconstructing negative claims and conceptions to the Blessed Virgin Mary. Moreover, it is expected that the participants will not just confine their learnings for themselves, but rather, share them to their respective families, friends, and neighbourhoods the Good News and message of love by the Blessed Mother. The 161st Mariology Class was even made special by the appearance and support given by the first Bishop of Kalookan and concurrent Parish Priest of San Roque Cathedral Parish and Spiritual Director of the COM, Most Rev. Deogracias S. Iniguez, Jr., D.D.; also with the presence of the new Vicar General of the Diocese, Rev. Fr. Alex N. Amandy, who lead the community in solemn Eucharistic Celebration on the first day.
To kick-off another year of humble and continued service, the officers of the Ministry of Altar Servers convened last January 12 to plan and outline its activities for 2008.

on of over 1500 relics under the care of Thomas Serafin, founder of the Apostolate for the Holy Relics, who was branded “Official Catholic Apostolate” by Roger Cardinal Malsong, Archbishop of Los Angeles in the United States. The remnants were brought to the Philippines from Guam through the sponsorship of the benefactors from Guam and the Dulce Nombres de Maria Cathedral, Basilica in Agana, Guam.
The pictures below depicts the other relics seen on the Exhibit as shot by Bro. Mark Mencias.

To date, two sessions have already been accomplished: first of which was held last April 26 with the theme, “The Youth as Generation X: Issues and Prospects,” keynoted by Bro. Raul S. Roque, Director of San Roque Cathedral Youth Ministry and Chairperson of the Parish Education Committee, and graced by his Excellency, Most Rev. Deogracias S. Iniguez, Jr., D.D., Bishop of Kalookan who expressed his profound joy as he witnessed this joint action of the youth in the Parish; while the second session held May 24 focused on the integral role of families in forming the youth, with Bro. Benjamin G. Sabater, founder of Children of Mary-Cenacle of Prayer and Life Community and a regular lecturer in the Basic Mariology Seminars, as resource speaker.
In preparation to their installation, the planning and renovation of the parish office and gradual modification of the schedule of masses are some of the changes as supervised by Fr. Ric Torrifiel, Parish Priest of San Bartolome whom has been given the authority to manage the Cathedral by Bishop Iniguez until the welcome of the bishop on the said date. He had also conducted meetings with each organization in the parish to check and determine if they are in good relationship with others after the transition period.
It can be remembered that the month of September had been a critical period for the cathedral. This transition period was the investigation and re-evaluation of Fr. Ben Lechuga led by the bishop. Different names were involved in this investigation. Many parishioners had addressed their own reactions and stand to these issues that made the investigation difficult. In accordance with the result of the investigation, Fr. Lechuga is advised to leave the church before the month of September ends. After 27 years of service in the parish, Fr. Boanerges Lechuga has ended his stay in this church. He had left the cathedral last September 30 due to his mismanagement that has questioned his credibility. Some of these are about money and his functions as a Parish priest, Vicar General, and the Rector of the Cathedral simultaneously.
