As Pastor of the Newman Center since 2004, I can honestly say that one of the biggest battlegrounds for the hearts of our young people is pornography. Our young people today have grown up with the internet and it has contributed to this serious epidemic we like to call "pornography addiction." There are millions of pornographic sites available to them within seconds by just a click of a button. It has been through our experience that we have come to realize that the majority of people started looking at hard core pornography at a very young age. Some of our young people do not even know that viewing pornography is immoral. The college experience is the time in your life to get serious about beginning the process of eliminating pornography from your life. If you've been looking at pornography a lot (once a week or more) chances are you'll need some help. We can help in the following ways:
- Free "Breaking Free" booklets in the back of the Church - gives you ideas on how to stop
- Our KC Millennium Men Project which includes:
- 100% confidentiality - no one is going to say anything
- One-on-One meetings with a KC Millennium Man - here you're talking to somebody that's been there and is now seeking to help others
- Examining the root causes and how they have contributed to where you are today,
- Accountability friend and support in times of temptation, and
- Exploring different ways you can modify your behavior.
The Catechism of the Catholic Church says the following about pornography: "2354 Pornography consists in removing real or simulated sexual acts from the intimacy of the partners, in order to display them deliberately to third parties. It offends against chastity because it perverts the conjugal act, the intimate giving of spouses to each other. It does grave injury to the dignity of its participants (actors, vendors, the public), since each one becomes an object of base pleasure and illicit profit for others. It immerses all who are involved in the illusion of a fantasy world. It is a grave offense. Civil authorities should prevent the production and distribution of pornographic materials."
