Battle of the Books is a Diocesan competition held each May. This year, the competition will be held May 11, 2006, at St. Joseph's School. Participating schools field teams of five fifth and/or sixth grade students who have read and discussed a group of 20 books throughout the school year. The teams respond to oral and written questions testing their knowledge of the books as well as their ability to compare and contrast them. The winning team is awarded a trophy.
Are you interested in coaching a team from your school, or helping a parent volunteer or reading teacher field a team? Your principal should have received a packet of information about Battle of the Books that includes a sign-up form. Complete your form and send it to Patty Andres, St. Joseph's School. If your school didn't receive the packet, or if you have any questions about Battle of the Books, please contact Patty at St. Joseph's, 703 436-3014 x308. It's a wonderful opportunity for student and adult readers to share their favorite books and learn team competition skills, too!
