Orlando Diocesan Council of Catholic Women (ODCCW) at n/a, Orlando, FL 32802 US - Home

Welcome to our Web Site!

Greetings from the ODCCW President!

May God bless each of you as we continue to do God's work.

The Orlando Diocesan Council of Catholic Women invites you to become a member of the ODCCW Burse Club. A Burse is fund that was established to help with funds necessary to educate students for the priesthood. Candidates for the priesthood attend four years of graduate studies in a school of Theology. In 1953, the Burse Club was formed under the auspices of the Diocesan Council of Catholic Women in the Diocese of Pensacola-Tallahassee to help the laity understand the role of the Christian Community in fostering and sustaining vocation to the priesthood.

As a member of the Burse Club, you are remembered in the daily prayers of seminarians, in the Masses of priest who have received assistance, and many more special offerings to be established here in the Diocese of Orlando. Fr. Miguel Gonzalez, Diocese of Orlando Vocations Director, is the Moderator for the ODCCW. Fr. Miguel and the members of the ODCCW welcome everyone to become a member of this club so we may support the seminarians from the Diocese of Orlando.

To join “our” newly establish Burse Club for the students from the Orlando Diocese send $12.00 (1.00 per month) to:

National Vocations Awareness Week is January 10-16, 2010. Please pray for all our religious in the Orlando Diocese.

September 24-26, some members of the ODCCW attended the National Council of Catholic Women Convention in Jacksonville, Florida. The new NCCW officers are:

Patty Johnson, President

Joanne Pohland, Region 1 Vice-President

Karen Painter, Region 2 Vice-President

Judy Powers, Region 3 Vice-President

Jane Schiszik Secretary

Kathleen Jones, Treasurer

Associates of NCCW elected, Shelia Hopkins as their new president. Friends of NCCW for WUCWO’s (World Union of Catholic Women's Organization) re-elected Sally Jackson as their president. It was an honor for me to be elected to serve on the Friends of WUCWO board.

Nancy Jo Sullivan’s book, What I've Learned from My Daughter, was the NCCW book club selection a few years ago. The members were inspired by Nancy’s presentation about how she and her daughter who passed away at the age of 23 with Down Syndrome, grew in their faith and love of Christ. Nancy’s book would be an excellent gift idea.

May 1-3, 2010 will be the dates for our 42nd annual ODCCW convention. It will be at the Lake Mary Marriott. Our theme is “May Your Life Be Like a Wild Flower, Growing Freely in the Beauty of God’s Creation.” More to come!

NCCW Sunday will be October 25th. Bishop Wenski’s letter has been sent to every parish in our diocese to celebrate the Council of Catholic Women.

ABOUT US

The Orlando Diocesan Council of Catholic Women (ODCCW) represents the Catholic women in the Diocese of Orlando through parish affiliations or groups.  We have 33 affiliations at the present time in the five deaneries:  Central DeaneryEastern Deanery, Northern Deanery, Southern Deanery, and Western Deanery.  Each deanery elects three representatives to serve on the ODCCW Board.

The Orlando Council is affiliated with the National Council of Catholic Women (NCCW) and strives to “support, educate, and empower” the women in our diocese “in spirituality, leadership, and service,” as stated in the NCCW Mission Statement.

The President of the ODCCW represents the women in the diocese at the State (or Province) level by attending meetings of the Florida Council of Catholic Women (FCCW), also known as the Province of Miami.  The FCCW President, in turn, represents the women in the state of Florida by serving on the Board of the National Council of Catholic Women.

Our organization is a service organization and we are structured around six (6) commissions:  Church, Family, Community, International, Legislation, and Organization.  The work of the Council is done through these commissions.
