Orlando Diocesan Council of Catholic Women (ODCCW) at n/a, Orlando, FL 32802 US - THE INVITATION
|
I exited the church pew and walked toward the entrance following Sunday morning Mass. Father had just invited the Council of Catholic Women to extend an invitation to all the women of the parish to attend next weekend's "Kick-off Mass and Breakfast" to start the Council activities going for the new season. A lady, whom I had not yet met, followed close behind me as I left the church and approached me as we stepped outside. "Do you belong to the Council of Catholic Women?" she asked. "Yes," I replied, "and so do you." She appeared puzzled. "Every Catholic woman, by virtue of her baptism, is a member of Council," I continued. Some women simply choose not be an active member." She challenged me, "Why should I choose to become active in the Council?" "There are many reasons to become any active Council woman," I responded. • To meet new women of your parish community and keep in touch with those you already know; • To support and encourage other parish family members in their faith, especially during difficult time in their lives; • To support parish and diocesan activities; • To support our clergy and religious in their personal lives, and as they strive to serve the Church and our parish families; • To nurture and enhance your own prayer and spiritual life; • To keep abreast of changes in Church; • To express your Catholic Faith on matters of interest, individually, and as an active member o Council, in your local community, in your state, and in our nation; • To be more aware of legislative issues, particularly those that support and/or oppose, our faith-based views; • To be more globally aware of the plights faced by our international sisters in faith and their families; • To financially assist these sisters in third world countries with the comfort of knowing the money you share with them is helping them directly; • To be part of the Council "voice" within the United Nations where we can hope to "make a Difference" globally; • To enjoy the benefit of programs and workshops presented not only locally, but at the national Council gatherings addressing areas of interest that involve family, church, community, and international concerns for women and children; • To network with women throughout the state and our nation to gain insight and expertise in areas of common interest; • To work with a strong group of women, who share the same faith and wasn't to make this world a better place in which to live and raise our families. "Would you like to attend the breakfast next weekend as my guest?" I will introduce you to some of the women I know and you can decide if you would like to join us during our activities." "I would love to attend with you! Thank you for inviting me. This sounds like a very worthwhile organization, and a great opportunity for me to give of my time, talent, and treasure. I'll look for you at Mass next weekend. Have a wonderful week!" This could be done in a skit format. Good luck!
