Orlando Diocesan Council of Catholic Women (ODCCW) at n/a, Orlando, FL 32802 US - LEGISLATION COMMISSION
|
"We the people..." means just that...we are the government. We cast ballots that do more than let liberty survive. We can determine the results. Votes that both you and I have cast in the past have determined whether new schools are built, whether we will have clean water, new highways and bridges, or have medical programs for the elderly, among other things. We have learned that every year thousands of laws by federal and state legislatures will be enacted affecting every phase of our lives. We, as Catholic women, need to be educated, informed, and involved in this process. Legislation that affects us, or our Church, should be carefully inspected and examined. The Aims and Purposes of this commission are: 1. To help persons and groups be more politically effective. 2. To help persons and groups understand the legislative process, and share in it, both pro and con. 3. To make certain that all citizens eligible to register actually are registered and then help them to get to the polls to cast their votes. 4. To help voters understand the issues on which they are voting - local, state, national. 5. To help persons and groups know the names and addresses of their legislative officials - city, county, state and national - and how to contact and influence them.
