The Respect Life Program begins anew each year on Respect Life Sunday, the first Sunday in October. The program is part of the work of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops' Office of Pro-Life Activities, and is rooted in the 2001 USCCB document Pastoral Plan for Pro-Life Activities: A Campaign in Support of Life.
Parishioners who would like to be involved in OLC's Respect Life programs should contact Chrystal Newman.
The theme for the 2007-08 Respect Life program is "The Infant in My Womb Leaped for Joy," referring to Luke 1:41-45. Read the overview of the current program here.

People of Life is the Pro-Life Action Campaign of the US Conference of Catholic Bishops.
"People of Life" was launched by the Catholic bishops to encourage those willing to stand together as a people of life and speak against the destruction of human life with one voice.
It is your opportunity to work with us to promote life!
Our goal is to expose a nation to the truth about the destruction of human life through abortion and euthanasia.
Our tools are advocacy, education, information, media, and the strength of tens of thousands who speak with one voice: We are committed to stopping the intentional destruction of human life!
Members of People of Life are people just like you, from every walk of life. As a member, you will receive regular informational mailings updating you on our work, and giving you the opportunity to support People of Life projects.

Stem cell research has become a source of intense controversy in our state and throughout our nation. Two types of stem cells are at the core of this controversy: adult and embryonic. As you know, the debate has focused on finding treatments, even cures, for a variety of diseases and chronic ailments. While the debate plays out in media sound-bytes, scientific and theological distinctions are not always made; it appears that one is either in favor of or totally opposed to any and all stem cell research. The Catholic Church holds a reasoned and carefully articulated moral perspective on the question. The bishops of the United States have launched a “Catholic Campaign to End the Use of the Death Penalty.” To help Catholics take up this challenge, the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops has a website with resources for use in parishes and dioceses, which include: Information on the January 2008 March for Life is available here. The 2008 National Prayer Vigil for Life will be held January 21-22. Please check here for more information. Helping couples to deepen conjugal love and achieve responsible parenthood is part of the Church’s total pastoral ministry to Catholic spouses. Fulfillment of this ministry includes both education and pastoral care. This means "instilling conviction and offering practical help to those who wish to live out their parenthood in a truly responsible way" (Familiaris consortio, #35). NFP is an umbrella term for certain methods used to achieve and avoid pregnancies. These methods are based on observation of the naturally occurring signs and symptoms of the fertile and infertile phases of a woman's menstrual cycle. Couples using NFP to avoid pregnancy abstain from intercourse and genital contact during the fertile phase of the woman's cycle. No drugs, devices, or surgical procedures are used to avoid pregnancy. NFP reflects the dignity of the human person within the context of marriage and family life, promotes openness to life, and recognizes the value of the child. By respecting the love-giving and life-giving natures of marriage, NFP can enrich the bond between husband and wife. (Standards for Diocesan Natural Family Planning Ministry, p. 23)
