Create a family date night every couple weeks! Order pizza, play games, visit with friends and one another! Sound fun? Add “faith formation” and you have F.I.R.E. (Family-centered Intergenerational Religious Education).
Groups of 3 to 6 families gather about every other week to share fellowship, build community and learn about our Catholic faith. In each of the five years of F.I.R.E. the lessons are based on a specific theme: revelation, sacraments, Old Testament patriarchs, Catholic identity, and social morality. There are approximately 15 fun-filled lessons each year designed to incorporate the entire family.
One of the most wonderful benefits of F.I.R.E. is the flexibility! Usually, families take turns hosting the lesson, but the group can also choose one leader for lessons. Fellowship is also a key component. Each group can create their own unique gathering ritual, blending a faith lesson with casual social occasion. Some groups may plan to have pot luck dinner together while others just enjoy dessert.
F.I.R.E. is not just for kids! Adults learn and relearn more about the richness of our faith and what it means to be Catholic! Families learn about their faith together and can incorporate the lessons into daily life! Most importantly, parents become active participants in the faith formation process, giving them an opportunity to model life long faith formation to their children.
The Faith Formation Department will assist as needed when begin. As you progress through your lessons, the Faith Formation Department will support you by keeping you informed and involved in parish life. Faith Formation will: provide supplemental, grade-specific information, keep you informed about sacramental preparation, organize a large group service project and provide opportunities for large group lessons/fellowship.
There are several ways to begin a F.I.R.E. group. Fill out the registration form found on-line. Print, fill out and bring to the Faith Formation Office or email Linda Merring. Your family will be placed with a group of families. You may also recruit a group of family friends and form your own F.I.R.E. group.
