Sister Lillian Jordan: Principal and 3rd and 4th grade teacher
Our Lady of the Mountains School is pleased to announce that Sister Lillian Jordan has accepted the position of school administrator and principal, effective July 11, 2011. In addition to these duties, Sister Lillian will also spend half of each day as the third and fourth grade teacher. Sister Lillian is a Sister of Mercy from North Carolina with extensive educational experience and a passion for teaching. As a school community, we are impressed by her experience, her warmth, her leadership and her commitment to providing the highest quality education to all students. Sister Lillian served as principal at both St. Joseph’s High School in Huntington WV and most recently as principal at Sacred Heart Elementary School in Williamson WV. She obtained her Masters Degree in Educational Administration from the University of Dayton. She is eager to serve the community of Paintsville and the students of OLM in her new role. She describes her educational philosophy as follows: “As teachers, we must always strive to build our students up so they may make a difference in their lives and the world at large. To be successful, we must provide students with an education beyond textbooks – learning must be hands on, experiencial. and employ a variety of methodologies. To bring education to life we as teachers must make it interesting and we must be creative. Good education changes people, or it’s not education – and we live in a world that needs change”. Sister Lillian is thrilled to join the staff at Our Lady of the Mountains and is impressed by the commitment of the faculty to address the talents, skills, and needs of each individual student. She is delighted with the holistic education offered, including the strong core curriculum and special classes such as art, music, sign language, Spanish and technology. Sister Lillian is excited to be part of the tradition of excellence at Our Lady of the Mountains School, and extends an open invitation to parents interested in enrollment opportunities to contact her at 789-3661.
