Kindergarten News!
We hope all our Kindergarten families enjoyed their holiday break, which started off with a bang at our school-wide Christmas party on Friday, December 16th! After caroling throught the streets of downtown Paintsville, our students were treated to a pizza party in the school cafeteria. The party then moved to the third floor ballroom, where students enjoyed making crafts (with the assistance of school parents and older school mates) such as God's eyes, Peppermint wreaths and Reindeer candy canes. A cake walk/musical chair game and dancing were two other activities enjoyed by all. A special thank you to school parent Amy C. for providing the music! And a big thanks to all the parents who sent Christmas themed snacks and assisted with the crafts.
We anticipate the possibility of school closings due to winter weather conditions in the coming months. (You should be aware that the children pray for snow quite frequently!) Please check our local radio stations, including WSIP and K-LITE 93.7 and WYMT TV for school delays and closings. WYMT's website features a "SNOW-GO" section which is easy to locate and convenient for many of our school families. Due to our extended school hours (15 extra minutes/day), we have several days "banked" to ensure we stay on schedule to dismiss for the summer on May 24th.
Looking ahead -- please note that Monday, January 16th is a school holiday in honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day. School will not be in session. Also, please watch the Thursday Announcements for news regarding Catholic Schools Week which will take place between January 29th until February 4th.
Don't forget that school resumes on Tuesday, January 3rd! We wish all our school families a happy and blessed 2012!
We eat a snack each day at 9:30. Please send a healthy snack to school with your child. This is not mandatory, but it helps is the snack is packed separately from lunch, if your child brings lunch from home. This just removes the chance of confusion as to what is snack and what is lunch!
Our classroom continues to be well stocked and we do not need any supplies at this point! I may ask for some paper towels, tissues or Clorox wipes as we start to run out of those.
We have plain yellow pencils that we use here at school. I love that the children have cute pencils to use, but I ask them to use them at home so they don't suffer the sorrow of losing them here.
We use spiral notebooks as journals. We have lots of these here at school, but if your child has one he/she has chosen, they may use that one instead.
Our special class schedule for the year is as follows:
Monday: Computers
Tuesday: Music
Wednesday: Library/Sign Language
Thursday: Spanish
Friday: PE
We will be scheduling a day for Art as well, but this schedule has not yet been finalized. These classes are held in the afternoon. It is best to schedule any appointments that cannot be made after school hours during the afternoon to avoid missing time in reading and math.
