Physical Education Program at 405 Third Street, Paintsville, KY 41240 US - Home
Welcome to Our Website
School children at OLM participate in structured physical education classes every Tuesday. Curriculum includes both cardiovascular exercise and organized games on the spacious grounds of the school. Education is also provided on the importance of daily exercise and proper nutrition with an emphasis on improving overall health and maintaining a balance between work, rest and play. In addition to physical education, the children have outdoor recess (weather permitting) twice a day. Favorite recess activities include basketball, soccer, 4-Square, capture the flag, baseball, and use of the available playground equipment. A new addition to our wellness program is a measured walking loop around the school grounds to encourage our students to keep track of how far they can walk. OLM remains committed to promoting wellness within the school community and is working to meet specific nutritional goals in accordance with new federal policy. Cafeteria lunches (provided by the Paintsville Independent School System) include foods that are low in sugar, sodium, and fat. Available beverages include water, white or chocolate milk, or 100% fruit juice. Parents who pack lunches for students are asked to consider these nutritional guidelines. In addition, OLM is proud to be a vending machine free school! However, children do get hungry during a busy school day, and snacks are welcome during the morning recess. Suggested snacks in accordance with the new federal guidelines include fresh or dried fruits, nuts, granola bars, puddings or yogurt, peanut butter crackers, sunflower seeds, baked chips or crackers, whole grain products, pretzels or popcorn. As a Catholic school, we are proud to provide a holistic focus to our students – emphasizing mind, body, and soul. Our physical education program and new policies related to nutrition allow us to be well prepared to address the physical needs of our students.
