Guidance

Are you spiritually running empty?

Do you need answers?

Start here.

Let Jesus Christ be your "North" and let our website be your roadmap.

Have you ever lost a child or a loved one? Have you ever done something or said something that you could never take back and regret? Have you ever been up to your ears in debt? Well, it is one thing to have money in the bank and quite another to have enough spiritual capital in your soul.

Truly, most of us do not have the spiritual and emotional resources to make it through our daily lives – patience, love for our neighbor and our enemy, confidence, forgiveness, humility, empathy, faith and hope.

1 Corinthians 13:4-7

"Love is patient, love is kind. It is not jealous, (love) is not pompous, it is not inflated, it is not rude, it does not seek its own interests, it is not quick-tempered, it does not brood over injury, it does not rejoice over wrongdoing but rejoices with the truth.  It bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never fails."

Colossians 1:9-15

"For this reason, since the day we heard about you, we have not stopped praying for you and asking God to fill you with the knowledge of His will through all spiritual wisdom and understanding. And we pray this in order that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and may please him in every way:"

What we have, God can multiply ten fold if we ask and have faith in Him. Although, this doesn’t mean that God will answer every one of our prayers precisely as we ask Him just because we have faith that He will. God determines our needs differently than we do. So, some of our prayers might be answered right away and others may go unanswered or have to wait, while he can work out a deeper purpose in our lives.

How to pray:

Prayer is a toll-free number, a direct line to God anytime and anywhere. Just start talking to Him. You don’t need fancy or religious words. Just be yourself. Talk to God as you would a good friend or even your own father. Be respectful, be yourself and have faith.

God is interested in all that you have to say. Talk about the good things in your life and talk about the bad things too. Remember though, prayer is a form of communication and communication goes both ways. You have to listen to hear what God is saying and that sometimes means silence. Just sitting in silence can be a form of prayer, and it gives God a chance to speak to you.

If you can’t figure out what to say or how to say it, there are many prayers that have been written that can help you; The Lord’s Prayer, The Hail Mary, The Act of Contrition and The Apostles Creed are just a few great examples.

Mathew 6:7-14

"Pray then in this way: Our Father in heaven, hallowed by your name, Your Kingdom come. Your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts as we also have forgiven our debtors. And do not bring us to the time of trial, but rescue us from the evil one. For if you forgive others their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you; but if you do not forgive others, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses."

The Rosary is also a powerful form of prayer that has moved many people over the years and helped them grow closer to God through prayer.

Each prayer can have different meanings and intentions and you can either pray from your heart or use the words written down from other prayers. God wants all of us, he knows our minds and our hearts. So, why not talk to him as such?

There is no other power, like prayer, that could go beyond the boundary of race, nation and religion.

The Power of Prayer:

2 Chronicles 7:14

"If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land"

Really believing what you pray for is just as important as the act of praying itself. Knowing what you are praying for and not mouthing the words out of habit make prayer a conscious effort. Prayer does not have to be a long, drawn out process, but being precise in what we are asking for according to the Bible rather than asking for what we want is important too. If it glorifies the Lord, then it will be something good for us and the effect of serious, thoughtful prayer is where the power lies.

In the Newsweek poll, "84 percent of Americans said praying for others can have a positive effect on their recovery. Fifty–three percent say they’ve personally relied on religious faith to help them get through a major illness or health problem. A full 72 percent of all those polled believe God can cure people given no chance of survival by medical science."

James 5:16

"Therefore confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed."

Mark 11:24

"Therefore I tell you, all that you ask for in prayer, believe that you will receive it and it shall be yours."

Matthew 6:7

"In prayer, do not babble… Your Father knows what you need before you ask him."

How to Pray the Rosary

1. Initial Prayers: "Sign of the Cross", while making the Sign of the Cross, "Apostles Creed", then "Our Father" once, the "Hail Mary" three times (for the intentions of the Pope), and the "Glory Be", once.

2. Mysteries: Announce the (First) Mystery. Choose Joyful, Luminous, Sorrowful, or Glorious Mysteries, depending on the day of the week and the liturgical season, or personal preference. (The Luminous Mysteries are new, announced by Pope John Paul II on October 16, 2002).

3. Decade Prayers: While meditating on the Mystery, say the "Our Father" once, the "Hail Mary" ten times, and the "Glory Be" once.

4. Invocation: End each decade with the "Fatima Prayer."

5. Second, Third, Fourth and Fifth Mysteries: Repeat steps 2 through 4.

6. Concluding Prayers: After completing the Mysteries, conclude the Rosary with "Hail, Holy Queen", "O God, Whose Only-Begotten Son" and, finally, "Sign of the Cross", while making the Sign of the Cross.
