PARENTAL RESPONSIBILITIES For each student to attempt to reach the potential of their God-given talents and abilities, it is important for parents to be aware of the programs, activities, and requirements in the school. This desired interaction of child, parent, and school can best be facilitated when parents: 1. Show an interest in the child's academic, spiritual, and emotional progress through periodic conferences with the teacher. 2. Learn the classroom policies of the teacher concerning availability of classroom supplies, expected behavior and basic procedures for classroom organization. 3. Keep the monthly calendar of events sent home with the newsletter posted at home for easy reference for meetings and special activities at school. 4. Participate actively in the Parent-Teacher Organization and any other school activities throughout the school year. 5. Show an interest in the school by volunteering for activities whenever possible. This witnesses the value the parent places on service. 6. See that the child attends school regularly and is on time for the beginning of the school day. 7. Keep information on school records and forms up to date. 8. See that the child has the proper clothing to comply with the uniform policy of Our Lady of Fatima Parish School. 9. Review and discuss proper attitude and behavior with the children regularly during the school year. 10. Monitor and supervise study at home, discuss grades, and assist the child with assignments; this shows the value placed on education in the family. PARENT-TEACHER ORGANIZATION The Parent-Teacher Organization (PTO) provides another opportunity for teachers and parents to work together for the welfare of the children and for the improvement of the school program. All parents or guardians of student enrolled at Our Lady of Fatima Parish School are members of the organization; all parents are encouraged to attend the meetings and to participate in the projects and programs during the year. Annual dues of $10.00 per family are due in August. Each family will receive a Dial-A-Friend, a booklet listing the class roster and addresses of the student body and faculty as well as the calendar for the school year. The regular meetings of the PTO are held during the school year. Notices of the meetings and activities are sent home in the monthly newsletter during the last week of each month. The PTO homeroom mothers plan together with the classroom teacher the class Halloween party, the Christmas service project and the party and a Valentine treat. The homeroom mothers coordinate the planning of the annual end of year celebration. Homeroom mothers may sponsor a hot lunch during the school year; the dates and types of lunches will be decided at the annual fall organizational meeting of the homeroom chairpersons, mothers, and the principal. VOLUNTEER PROGRAM The volunteers in the school provide many education opportunities for the students. Volunteers serve in the central school library, in the school office, in the classropm on special projects, computer lab, and on field trips. Any parent who is able to volunteer some time may call the school office to discuss where they may serve the children of our school. Since all parents may serve as a volunteer during the school year, we ask that every parent complete the volunteer questionnaire issued with the diocesan sexual abuse policy. The completed forms are returned in a sealed envelope to OLOF Parish School office. The sealed envelopes are forwarded to the Office of the Catholic Education and Formation in Wheeling. STUDENT RESPOSIBILITIES Students enrolled at Our Lady of Fatima Parish School are expected to: 1. Display a proper Catholic Christian attitude of respect and support toward others in the school 2.
