The faculty and administration of OLOF Parish School strive to meet the challenge of the American Bishops' call for message, community, and service in the religious education program in the parish school. Religion classes are scheduled daily to teach and to reflect on the message of Jesus to the Church. Daily the students and teachers pray together in the classroom; weekly as a community of believers they participate in the Eucharistic liturgy. Students are encouraged to serve each other in the school, adults in the school family, in parish projects, and whenever possible, in community projects. Parents, in fulfilling their challenge as primary educators of their children as clarified by the diocesan guidelines, will reinforce the teaching and witness given and received at OLOF Parish School. RELIGIOUS EDUCATION CLASSES Religion is a major subject in the curriculum of a Catholic school. The textbooks used in the school are on approval lists of texts from the Department of Catholic Education and Formation in the diocese. The curriculum is to be a balanced integration of content (doctrine, church tradition, and scripture), spiritually (prayer and liturgy), and mission (social outreach and service to others). The diocesan policy for religious education class per week is: These time allocations include the instruction in the basic text as well as the Benziger Family Life Program mandated by the Diocese of Wheeling-Charleston to be taught in every class from Kindergarten through grade eight. This human sexuality program is to be integrated where possible with the basic text materials. RECONCILIATION FIRST EUCHARIST CONFIRMATION
