Liturgy Committee: By planning liturgies, seasonal celebrations, and masses for special events, the members of this committee strive to be responsive to the needs of the Assembly and help our liturgies become the font and summit of our communal prayer life. All facets of liturgical celebrations are discussed at these meetings. Typically, the leaders from our Liturgical ministries serve on this commission. Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion: Ministers are commissioned to assist in the distribution of the Eucharist. The Diocese requires a day-long workshop for those interested in this ministry. Training is scheduled at Our Lady of Lourdes on September 26, 2009 from 9:00 to Noon. Readers (Lectors): Through this ministry, God’s living Word continues to be proclaimed to His people. Persons who can speak distinctly and address the Assembly in a convincing manner are invited to be lectors. Training sessions and workshops for lectors are provided throughout the year. Altar Servers: Boys and girls are encouraged to serve at the altar. Students who have received the sacrament of Eucharist are trained for this ministry. Assisting the community at Mass is a privilege for any student. Ushers/Ministers of Hospitality: *(fingerprinting requirement) Men and women ushers help build a strong sense of community. They are responsible for greeting people, assisting them in being seated, taking up the stewardship collection, distributing parish bulletins, and handling emergency situations which may occur during services. Music Ministry: Music is an integral part of today’s Liturgy. Instrumentalists, cantors, choirs, and directors are all necessary parts of our Worship experience. RUAH our praise band leads the music for our 6pm Mass [www.ruahmusic.com]; Our SCHOLA CANTORUM sings Latin and early classical Church music and leads the music for the 4:00 PM Mass. Cantors lead music for 8:00 AM and 9:30 AM Masses when our children's choir is not singing. Our Adult choir leads the music for our 11:00 AM Mass and rehearses every Wednesday at 7:00 PM September through May. ECHOES is our children and youth music ministry program at our school. Children who do not attend Our Lady of Lourdes school are welcome to join us in leading music for Sunday worship. Ministry of Welcome: *(fingerprinting requirement) This ministry is comprised of joyful people filled with the love of God and our community who wish to convey their enthusiasm to all who worship at Our Lady of Lourdes. Ministers can be any age. They must arrive at least twenty minutes before Mass begins. Beach Mass: Every Easter, Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Community celebrates 9:00 a.m. Mass on Daytona Beach. Hundreds of people gather in the open-air, with the sounds of waves lapping the shore and the rays of the morning sun dancing on the sea and warming all present.
