Abbot Celestine Cullen, OSB, Glenstal Abbey, Ireland

On Wednesday 29 July 2009, in a farewell supper and reception at the Abbey's monastic refectory, the Abbot and Monks of Mount St Benedict paid tribute to Abbot Celestine Cullen, who has assisted the Abbey over the past four and a half months.  He arrived on March 19 and will return to his Abbey in Ireland on Thursday 30 July 2009.  Abbot John addressed Abbot Celestine with words of appreciation for his wonderful assistance to the monastery and for his insights which he shared in his sermons and conferences during his stay.  In reply, Abbot Celestine said that he had thoroughly enjoyed his stay at the Abbey and experienced a very warm welcome in our midst.  He was presented with a specially prepared "Thank You" card signed by all the monks.  He was also given an ornamental tenor pan, symbol of Caribbean music, and a book on the people, culture and customs of Trinidad.  

During his stay at the Mount, Abbot Celestine made a very important contribution in our Parlour Ministry and in our Liturgical Life.  He was very much appreciated by the many pilgrims visiting the Abbey for his wise counsel and also for his very insightful homilies.  He received the farewell prayer of blessing at the Moring Prayer of the monastic community on Thursday 30 July, the date of his departure.
