MONKS LAUNCH TAXI SERVICE |
The Pilgrims will benefit from a new TAXI service launced at Mount St Benedict on Tuesday 01 September 2009. This service replaces the former Bus Service which deteriorated over the past few years. PLACID, the first Suzuki APV seven-seater Taxi, began operating on Tuesday 01 and will soon be joined by MAURUS, on Saturday 05 September 2009. The vehicles have been named after the early disciples of St Benedict, and the patrons of Benedictine Novices. The first vehicle, PLACID, was blessed by the Abbot in the presence of all the monks on Sunday 30 August 2009, in front of the Monastic Refectory. The second vechicle, MAURUS, which was delivered to the Abbey on Friday 04 September 2009, was blessed after Evening Prayer on the same day.
MAURUS and PLACID are also the monastic names of the first two Trinidadians to become monks of the Abbey of Mount St Benedict.
Fr Abbot passed his Regulations and Driving Test on Thursday 03 September as he successfully applied for his TAXI Badge. The Abbot has encouraged other monks and employees to obtain their TAXI Badges, as this may prove useful at some time. The service will be operated by some experienced persons with "H" Badges. The TAXIS will be stationed at the Abbey.
It is hoped that this will prove to be a more efficient means of transport for the pilgrims.
