Palm Beach Diocesan Council of Catholic Women at 6559 NW 32nd Av, Coconut Creek, FL 33073 US - Take A Sister to Lunch Luncheon

Take A Sister to Lunch Luncheon

Nearly 130 women gathered at the Hilton Singer Island Oceanfront hotel to honor the religious sisters of our Diocese and to celebrate the good works they have done and continue to do.  Take A Sister To Lunch is an annual event sponsored by  the Palm Beach Diocesan Council of Catholic Women in cooperation with its member affiliations.  Some 50 sisters from throughout our diocese were honored. Sr. Margaret Jeanne Keller, SSJ, Episcopal Delegate of Religious, greeted the women and spoke briefly of the United States being rededicated to the Immaculate Conception at noon on this day.

During the program that followed lunch, three sisters shared memories of how

they  were  called to serve in their various ministries.  A response was given by

CCW members who serve in allied vocations.

St. Yvonne Arcand, C.S.C., told of her life’s work in education and about founding the Holy Cross School.  JoAnne D’Angelo, Central Deanery CCW President, an elementary school teacher responded with how sisters affected her life and influence her teaching today. Memories of being called to a ministry of health care and recovery were shared by Sr. Patrice Marie Selby, IHM, who is an on-call chaplain at the Hanley Center.    Dolores Hughes, a registered nurse for 38 years and Vice President of Southern Deanery CCW responded, reflecting on how her high school volunteer work with the Dominicans in a cancer care center in Philly influenced her choice of the health care field.   Sr. Brenda Rose Szegedy, OSF, recounted her years in retreat work, especially at the Cenacle Spiritual Retreat Center.   Northern Deanery President, Lois Pujol, responded about how retreats have been a part of her spiritual life.  Lois has attended at least one weekend retreat each year for more than 30 years.

In reflecting on the program and closing the event, PBDCCW President, Betty

McKinley, thanked the sisters for acting courageously and honorably in service to others through their respective ministries.  McKinley said, “You express the light of God as compassion in thought and action, as dedication to giving to others.  We see you experiencing God’s light as peace, strength and wholeness.  May you always know how much you have brought the light of God to us and blessed the Council of Catholic Women.”
