In the seven years since the law was first enacted, only two percent of those marrying in Louisiana have signed up for the Marriage Covenant. Why did so few of them choose the more difficult route? The question becomes even more perplexing when we realize that clergy perform 86 percent of the marriages in Louisiana and the state is 53% Catholic. The psychological, economic and social fall-out of no-fault divorce is so obvious that some sort of reform is overdue. Is it too much for voters in this election year to ask the presidential candidates where they stand on the issue?
