Have you ever seen the paper chains that children make to count the days until Christmas? Children will grab the calendar right after Thanksgiving, count the days until Christmas, and with deft hands and a new glue stick, cut enough strips of construction paper to match that number. Then, they glue one strip into a circle and attach new links until all of the days until Christmas are accounted for. Every night, they pull one link off the chain and are one day closer to having that new bike they asked Santa for. As the holiday season approaches, we think of the many children throughout the world that will not receive any presents this year. Yet, of all the things they could wish for, they long for one gift in particular: a forever family. They eagerly anticipate this just as much as American children look forward to Christmas.
