Prince of Peace at 4300 Walnut Lake Road, West Bloomfield, MI 48323 US - Become a Mentor!

Become a Mentor!

Make a Difference in the Life of a Child Become a Mentor! Mentor Connection is a program that brings together young people who can benefit from encouragement and attention and caring adults who can provide that support through structured mentoring relationships. The youth in the program live in Oakland County and come from a variety of racial, religious and socioeconomic backgrounds. In the past year Mentor Connection has served 98 youth within our two mentoring programs- School-based mentoring and Community-based mentoring. We are currently looking for good people to become mentors to youth in need of guidance and support! Community-based mentors and youth are matched in a one-on-one relationship where they spend on average 5-10 hours per month together doing activities that they both enjoy, such as fishing, bowling, working on a school project, visiting the zoo, gardening, or just hanging out. Community mentors commit to spending at least one year with the child. School-based mentors commit to spending one hour per week with a child at a specific school for an academic year. Mentors and students meet after school hours and focus a portion of the time on academics, as well as participating in enrichment groups, sports, computer games, or other activities. Currently, Mentor Connection has programs in four schools: McIntyre Elementary in Southfield, Clifford Smart Middle School in Walled Lake, Lanigan Elementary School in Farmington Hills, and Hillel Day School of Metropolitan Detroit in Farmington Hills. If you would like information about becoming a mentor or to refer a child to Mentor Connection, please contact Katie Holden at (248) 592-2317, or email at kholden@jfsdetroit.org.
