Though it seems like yesterday, it was in December 2002 that our Prayers and Squares Quilt Ministry was launched.

We have been very blessed to have been able to distribute many prayers along with over 200 quilts to parish members and others who have asked for our service. In addition to this, we send quilts to our returning military and as a parish we were able to send approximately 80 prayer quilts and linens to our sister parish in Biloxie.

We began with 10 original members. Of this number four remain. We have had a few members join in along the way and for this I am very grateful. But now there is an opportunity for more to join this beautiful ministry. We are in need of a few more helping hands. The jobs are many be it pressing fabric, cutting, sewing, putting in ties, sewing on labels or updating our memory album. There is a place for anyone who wants to help.

Our group meets about five times a year for fellowship and to work on putting the ties in the quilts that you pray over. All our sewing is done in our own homes. It can be done at your convenience...bring out that old Singer and sew for an hour or two. We provide the fabric, cut and ready to sew according to the instructions we also provide. Very simple patterns and the final projects are of a manageable size (approx. 40”-60”). They are then turned in and someone puts them together to make them into the quilts that you see after Mass.
