I am happy to report that the Fall 2008 New Member Retreat went very well! We were blessed with a beautiful fall weekend at the Jesuit Spiritual Center at Milford and doubly blessed with great retreatants & retreat team! I am very grateful for the efforts of the retreat team members Marianne Helton, Polly Giardina, Kathy Kremer & Jeff Glaser & retreat facilitator George Polak; they put a lot of work into planning a great weekend! Our theme for the weekend was “Chosen For the Journey”, based upon Henri Nouwen’s themes of Chosen, Blessed, Broken, & Shared from his book Life of the Beloved and the Milford Spiritual Center was a wonderful setting to reflect upon how those four themes apply to our lives. I would also like to express gratitude to Padre for sharing the weekend with us, Fr. Louis Lipps for assisting with Reconciliation, Prayer Partner Coordinator Kiwa Murakami & her team of Prayer Partners for providing wonderful gifts & prayers for the retreat team & participants, & to retreatant Pete Thomas who provided beautiful guitar music for Sunday Mass. Without their efforts the weekend wouldn’t have been the same! Since my term as Retreat Coordinator comes to a close at the year’s end, I also want to thank all RIVER members who have helped with the retreats in anyway this year, your efforts have been much appreciated & have helped built up & strengthened the RIVER community! I have greatly enjoyed being Retreat Coordinator this year; coordinating the retreats is a big job, but an enjoyable one & it was a wonderful experience to be able to provide individuals the opportunity to take time to deepen their faith & grow closer to God!
