5th Grade Daily Reading and AR procedures
Choosing Books and Reading Every Night
· Books chosen should be on AR and in your given reading range (unless approved by your parent and teacher)
· Read 30 minutes every night.
· The 30 minutes of reading should be logged on your reading log by filling out the appropriate columns nightly.
In Class Reading
· Throughout the week, I will check reading logs and allow time to read in class. By having your reading log filled out and participating in the 10 minutes of reading in class, you can receive 5 homework/participation points.
When Finishing a Book
· Take the test on AR.
o The test printout should be hole punched and placed directly in the reading section of your binder kept in your classroom.
· Turn in a 2 paragraph report on the book
o 1st paragraph – Describe one thing that you liked about the book.
o 2nd paragraph – Describe one thing that you didn’t like about the book.
End of Quarter Grades
· You will receive 100 total points for AR progress.
o 50 points will be received if you meet your point goal.
o 50 points will be received if you score an average of 85% or higher on all AR quizzes for the quarter
