Current Events Assignments |
This year the students are going to be completing current event assignments. They are going to e looking for articles about religion, service, or people doing good. This will help enable the students to see aspects of their faith all around them.
For each nine week grading period, students must turn in four current events. Each current event is worth 20 points. The students will have to present one. Their oral presentation is worth 20 points. These 100 points are a major part of the total points for the grading period. Each quarter we will do one current event as a class which will count towards their requirement of four.
There will be about seven to eight assigned days each quarter in which a current event may be turned in. These days are usually on Fridays or the last day of the week. Students may turn in a current event on any of these days, however only one current event may be turned in per assigned day.
Current events need to be turned in on a full sheet of paper. They need to be typed or written neatly in ink. Students need to include their name, homeroom teacher's name, the date, and their color. The article that the student reads needs to be attached to his/her paper.
The paper on the current event must be two paragraphs. In the first paragraph, the student will write a summary of the aricle he/she read. This summary must be in his/her own words. Do not copy the article! The second paragraph needs to explain either his/her reaction to the article or how he/she thinks it will impact our society.
I will occasionally have newspapers in my room if you do not receive one at home. Students will never be given class time to complete the assignment. If you have any questions or problems please see me for help.
