The Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults or RCIA: 

Have you ever thought about becoming Catholic? “RCIA” is a program for those considering the possibility of joining the Catholic Church. There is no commitment to anything other than coming to the initial classes and “hopefully” asking a few questions. If you remain interested, you have the option of becoming a formal student in early December.

 

At the beginning of Lent, you are asked if you would like to prepare for the reception of the Sacraments of Initiation at Easter. However, no formal commitment is made until Easter Vigil. There is no pressure. You can defer the decision as long as you are uncertain.

 

But the RCIA is not just for those considering the possibility of becoming Catholic.

 

Perhaps you are a Catholic, but were never confirmed? The RCIA is a great way to remember forgotten lessons. Perhaps you are a cradle Catholic who simply would like to relearn the basics? The RCIA is a wonderful experience of doing this in a supportive environment. Perhaps you are not interested in becoming Catholic, but you are marrying a Catholic and want to learn more about his/her church? Again, the RCIA is a no-pressure opportunity to do this.
