Mrs. Christine Peplinski - Principal

Mrs. Christine Peplinski grew up in Ionia, Michigan and attended Saint Peter and Paul School there. She attended Aquinas College for her Bachelor Degree and Western Michigan University for her Master's Degree. She is married and has twin daughters. She has been in the Grand Rapids Diocese for 23 years. Mrs. Peplinski taught for 20 years and has been an administrator since that time. In her spare time she enjoys reading, spending time with family and walking.


Support Staff

Mrs. Barbara Menardie - Office Administrator

Mrs. Menardie is a Sacred Heart alumnus (as are her children), so that makes her job as Office Administrator seem like a homecoming. Mrs. Menardie is a graduate of Davenport University obtaining a degree in Applied Sciences with a concentration in Law. Her prior professional experience includes Senior Legal Assistant at an insurance defense firm and a Business Manager of a charter school. Mrs. Menardie enjoys being a part of the Folk Group here at Sacred Heart, bicycling, traveling and camping with her husband.

Teaching Staff

Mrs. Barbara Velte

Mrs. Barbara Velte teaches preschool and junior kindergarten. Mrs. Velte has been teaching Sacred Heart’s youngest students for 20 years. She is a mother of two, including a Sacred Heart of Jesus School alumnus. When asked what she likes best about teaching at Sacred Heart of Jesus School, Mrs. Velte says: “I love the West Side community and the people in it. The children, parents and teachers I work with are my greatest inspirations.”

Mrs.Kay Kooy

Mrs. Kay Kooy teaches kindergarten. Mrs. Kooy holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Grand Valley State University. She has been teaching for 24 years, the last 21 years at Sacred Heart of Jesus School. Mrs. Kooy says that she continues to be impressed by the “high level of enthusiasm for learning” that she sees in her students at Sacred Heart of Jesus School. When she is not helping her Kindergarteners learn, Mrs. Kooy also enjoys reading and scrapbooking.

Mrs. Lori Schumaker

Mrs. Lori Schumaker teaches first grade. Mrs. Schumaker holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Central Michigan University. She has been teaching for 25 years. For 23 of those years, she has been teaching at Sacred Heart of Jesus School. She has taught junior kindergarten through third grade. Mrs. Schumaker is the mother of three children who have attended Sacred Heart of Jesus School. She says that she appreciates the supportive parents at Sacred Heart. Mrs. Schumaker enjoys reading and spending time with her family.

Miss Lisa Ingersoll

Mrs. Lisa Ingersoll is our second grade teacher.  Mrs. Ingersoll has a Bachelor of Science and Mathematics from Grand Valley State University.  This is her fourth year teaching in the Catholic school system.  She has really enjoyed sharing her faith, and love for learning with her students.  Mrs. Ingersoll likes spending time with her husband, family, and friends when she's not teaching second grade.

Mrs. Angela Dressander

Mrs. Angela Dressander is our third grade teacher.  Mrs. Dressander holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Aquinas College.  She is currently working on her Masters in Reading and Language Arts at Grand Valley State University.  Mrs. Dressander has been teaching in the Catholic school system for 7 years.  She loves helping children become life long learners.  When she is not teaching, Mrs. Dressander enjoys reading, shopping, traveling, and spending time with her husband and daughter.

Mrs. Ann Ostrowski

Mrs. Ann Ostrowski teaches fourth grade. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Western Michigan University. Mrs. "O" has been teaching at Sacred Heart of Jesus School for 20 years. She loves being able to share her faith with her students. Mrs. O is married and the mother of three. When she is not teaching she enjoys rollerblading, biking, reading and spending time with her family.

Miss. Jessica Sund

Miss Jessica Sund teaches fifth grade. She has a Bachelor of Arts degree from Grand Valley State University. Miss Sund feels privileged to be able to use the Roman Catholic faith as a framework of reference in all areas of growth in the school environment. She is continually impressed by the enthusiasm and generosity that is present at Sacred Heart of Jesus. Outside of teaching, Miss Sund's interests include reading and camping.  


Mrs. Kate Norman
 

Mrs. Norman teaches 6th grade as well as Middle School Language Arts.  She graduated from Aquinas College in 2003 with a Bachelors of Arts degree. She has been teaching for 2 years, with 1 1/2 years at a public school in North Carolina, and 1/2 year at Sacred Heart of Jesus. She enjoys the religious community and support that is given throughout the church and school. When Mrs. Norman is not teaching, she loves playing/singing music, reading, Norte Dame football, and spending time with her husband, family and friends.

 

Mr. Tim Walsh

Mr. Tim Walsh is the seventh grade homeroom teacher, and also teaches History, Social Studies and Religion to the junior high students. Mr. Walsh has a Bachelor of Arts degree from Aquinas College. He began his teaching career at Sacred Heart Of Jesus five years ago. Mr. Walsh says that he looks forward to the opportunity to make a difference in the faith development of his students. When he is not teaching, Mr. Walsh’s interests include carpentry, camping and hiking.

Ms. Joanne Herron

Ms. Joanne Herron is the eighth grade homeroom teacher and also teaches junior high Math and Science. Ms. Herron has a Bachelor of Arts degree from Western Michigan University, where she is also currently pursuing her Masters Degree. She has been teaching for thirteen years, the last eleven at Sacred Heart of Jesus School. Ms. Herron says that she especially enjoys being able to share her faith with her students at Sacred Heart. Away from school, Ms. Herron enjoys reading and tennis. Ms. Herron is the mother of a Sacred Heart of Jesus School student.

Mr. Dennis Gillean - Maintenance Supervisor

Mr. Gillean is a resident of Cedar Springs, MI and is in charge of the maintenance for the entire Sacred Heart of Jesus Complex. He is an avid fisherman as well as hunter. Mr. Gillean is married and the father of two girls.
