Welcome to the web page for the confirmation group activities for 2008-9. There will be an opening meeting for those due for Confirmation (and their parents) on Sunday 23 November 2008 after the evening Mass.  All candidates (and their families) must be registered in the parish (by filling in an Orange Registration Form) and already be attending Mass regularly each week for a minimum of TWO years before being invited to join the classes.

The Confirmation group will be meeting every Sunday afternoon  at 5.00 pm either in the Sacred Heart Centre or in the Back Room of the Church.

Parents will be expected to attend separate sessions from time to time.

This year there may be joint sessions with neighbouring parishes, and the Confirmation Ceremony may be arranged in one ceremony together.

"We try to ensure that the candidates play an active part in every aspect of church life, to this end the candidates take part in weekly readings, welcoming parishioners into church, taking collections at Mass and eventually becoming Eucharistic ministers at Mass. Each year we will have 2 retreats in church. In addition we will try to visit another denomination church for the candidates to see the similarity between our faith and that of another church. The candidates will also take part in at least two sponsored events to raise monies for CAFOD. We try to make it our business to discuss all aspects of our faith at our weekly meetings and to engage the candidates in open conversation so that we can air any misconceptions that the candidates may have about religion in general. Our discussions this year will touched the subjects of abortion/euthanasia/drugs/family life as well as the life of Jesus, and our discussions still have 2 months to go! The Bible is a very important tool in our weekly meetings as all our discussions will be based on the teachings of Catholic life as seen through the words of the Bible and we try to read from the bible every week so as to encourage the candidates in their discussions about their faith. Teachings will also be based on the Catholic Catechism."

"We were extremely encouraged by Bishop Mark's consistent comments about our efforts in the Group meetings and though these meetings are hard work for the Catechists and the Candidates it is all worth it when we gather together for Confirmation day. Bishop Mark also encourage the group to take an active interest in parish events and to eventually join up with the youth group when they complete the course of meetings. We firmly believe that no group should consider itself separate from other group activities but try to involve itself from time to time with other group activities so as to expand their knowledge of church life and involvement in church activities. Some of our work each week is taken from the Book "Welcome The Spirit" and each week is named after a part of the work taken from that book. Other events and news to be announced later. "
