Knights of Peter Claver
This organization was founded by Father Peter Claver, an advocate of the poor. The Knights and Ladies Auxiliary meet once a month in Grand Rapids. Some of the Knight's objectives are: to be staunch supporters of the local pastor of the parish and of the bishop of the diocese; to participate collectively in various parish and community activities; to promote civic improvements; to make contributions to worthwhile causes; and to encourage Lay Apostolic and Catholic Action. Community Service is a very important function of this group. Anyone may become a member, black, white, Hispanic, Indian. You must be a practicing Catholic and meet specific qualifications.
Knights of Peter Claver - Junior Daughters
Peter Claver Junior Daughters are supported by the Ladies of Peter Claver auxiliary. The Junior Daughters functions are primarily the same as the auxiliary, focusing on community service. To become a member, one must have received First Holy Communion. After graduation from high school, a daughter can transfer over into the adult Ladies Auxiliary.
Monthly Craft Day
2nd Saturday of each month in the Victor Miller Room in the church from 1:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. Dig out that unfinished afghan or sweater from your closet, dust off your scrapbooking stuff, or pull out that unopened kit you've been wanting to work on. Whatever it is, bring it with you and enjoy a few hours with others who enjoy crafting. Let's visit and get to know each other better, encourage each other and admire each other's talent. Improve your own skills with the extra practice! This is a very casual, fun time. Feel free to arrive and leave as fits your needs. Bring a snack item to share and invite a friend.
Sewing Bee
Sacred Heart was the beneficiary of a 16' (literally) truck load of material. 75% is fleece; 20% is flannel; the other 5% is various other fabrics. We meet every other Wednesday from 9:00am to 3pm in the school. We have donated bolts of materials to other churches and organizations. We have made hundreds of blankets that we donated to International Aid, MAP, included a blanket with each Christmas basket, special "Covered in Prayer" blankets went to Marywood along with 80 dining scarves. We are in the process of making blankets for Sacred Heart's homebound, nursing home and 90+ year olds. More hands for sewing, cutting, measuring, typing blankets, or simply coming for fellowship are always welcome. Bring lunch and enjoy time with each other as you do God's work.
