We believe that all persons are created in the divine image. We respect, honor and celebrate the image of God revealed in human uniqueness, dignity and diversity.

We also believe that every child is a gift from God. We also believe that children enrolled in our schools, parish religious education programs and other youth programs must be treated with dignity, respect and care.

All personnel and clergy (who have faculties in DOSP) must be approved through the proper background checks and screening as required by DOSP.

Adult volunteers (persons over 18 years of age) engaged or involved in any diocesan institution or parish activity, and entrusted with the CARE, RESPONSIBILITY or SUPERVISION of children or vulnerable adults must be approved through the proper background checks. All volunteers must attend a Safe Environment Program specific to their volunteer area. All persons working with youth must attend a SEP specific to children and youth. All persons working with vulnerable adults must attend a program specific to the vulnerable adults. This program includes Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion who visit homebound, hospitals, nursing homes or assisted living facilities.

All adult persons (personnel and volunteers) who are in a position of trust and have regular contact with children and youth are provided with a "Code of Conduct for Adults working with youth".

All children involved in a parish, school or diocesan program are provided with a "Code of Conduct for Children & Youth". We adhere to the standard that children and youth function best when behaviors and expectations are clearly defined.
