The day of Baptism is a day for the whole family to celebrate! For your child, Baptism is the day in which he or she is reborn in Christ Our Savior. For the parents, godparents, and family, it is a day of great happiness for their child is to receive the faith, which has been handed down from their family members. For the Christian community, it is a day of promise, welcome, and hope as a new member of the Church receives the faith and we reaffirm our Christian heritage. Baptism is the first step in initiation into the sacramental life of faith. In order to have your child baptized at St. Didacus, parents must fulfill the following requirements:

¡El día de Bautizo es un día de celebración familiar y comunitaria! Para sus hijos, el Bautizo es el día en que nacen como hijos de Dios. Para los padres, padrinos y familiares, es un día de gran alegría, pues sus hijos recibirán la fe que procede desde generaciones atrás. Para nuestra comunidad cristiana, es un día de bendiciones donde le damos la bienvenida a nuestra comunidad a un nuevo miembro y es una alegría para grande también para nosotros. El Bautizo es el primer paso de iniciación a la vida sacramental de nuestra fe. Ahora bien, para tomar este primer paso en la parroquia de San Didacus, los padres deben cumplir con los siguientes requisitos:
1. Residence
: Parents must be registered parishioners of St. Didacus and practicing their faith here for at least 6 months prior to the date of the baptism or provide a letter from the pastor of the parish where they do reside. Parents can pick up a registration form in the Parish Office, which is open from 8:30AM - 5:00PM, Monday thru Friday; however closed from NOON - 1:00PM for lunch.1. Registracion: Los padres deben ser estar registrados en la parroquia, así como también deben practicar su fe, por lo que se requieren 6 meses previos a la fecha del Bautizo o bien una carta del Párroco de su parroquia para verificar su participación en la practica de su fe.
2. Interview
: An interview with the pastor or deacon is required before being admitted to the Baptism seminar. Please call the office to schedule an interview time.2. Entrevista: Una entrevista con el párroco o diacono se requiere antes de ser admitidos a la platica del bautismo.
3. Seminar
: Parents and sponsors (godparents) of the child to be baptized are required to attend the Thursday evening seminar before scheduling the Baptism. The seminar will provide parents and sponsors the opportunity to renew and share their faith with others as well as review the Church’s teaching regarding Baptism.
3. Platicas: Los padres y padrinos deberán asistir a las platicas bautismales, llevadas a cabo los sábados en la mañana, antes de fijar la fecha del Bautizo. El seminario proporciona a los padres y padrinos una oportunidad para reanudar y compartir su fe con los demás y también de repasar las enseñanzas de la Iglesia con respecto al Sacramento del Bautizo.
4. Day/ Location of Seminar
: Baptism seminars are held generally on the fourth Thursday of every other month in the Parish Hall at 7:00 p.m. You must complete the appropriate paper work before you may attend this seminar. Please arrive 15 minutes early to check in. There is no childcare available for these seminars. We would request that you make child care arrangements on the night of the seminar so that you may give your full attention to material being presented.4. Día/Lugar: Generalmente, las platicas bautismales se llevan el cuarto sábado de cada mes, es decir un mes sí y otro no en el salón de parroquial a las 10:00 de la mañana. Favor de hablar a la oficina para registrarse a la platica y si es posible favor de llegar 15 minutos antes de las platicas. Se les pide si es posible que hagan arreglos para dejar a sus hijos en casa ya que se requiere de su mayor atención durante las platicas.
5. Baptism
: Families are required to have all forms – parish registration (as needed), baptismal registration, and letters of consent from pastors of other Catholic parishes (when applicable), – completed and turned into the Parish Office before scheduling a date for the Baptism. We ask that families arrive 15 minutes early on the date of Baptism in order that other liturgical commitments not be interrupted.5. Bautizo: Las familias deben tener todas las formas – registro parroquial (obligatorio), registro del bautismo (hoja morada), o la carta de consentimiento del pastor de otra parroquia católica (en caso necesario), – haber completado todos los tramites e ir a la oficina parroquial antes de verificar la fecha para el Bautismo. Pedimos a las familias que llegan 15 minutos antes de la fecha del Bautismo para que otros compromisos litúrgicos no sean interrumpidos.
6. Sponsors: A Baptismal Sponsor (Godparent) must be at least 16 years of age and must have received the sacraments of Communion and Confirmation. In addition, he/she must be of good moral character, living a life of faith. A Baptized person who is not Catholic may be admitted as a witness to the Baptism and be recorded as such. One sponsor, male or female, is sufficient, but there may be two, one of each sex. (Ref. Canon Law #873-874, “Sponsors”) If from another parish, the individual will need to provide a letter from his or her pastor stating that the sponsor is in good standing at that parish.
6. Padrinos: El Padrino o Madrina debe ser mayor de 16 años de edad y deberá haber recibido los sacramentos de Primera Comunión y Confirmación. Adicionalmente, el/ella debe ser personas que vivan su fe. Una persona bautizada que no es Católica puede ser testigo del Bautizo y así anotado. Solo se necesita un padrino/madrina, mas puede haber dos de ambos sexos. (Ley Canónica para los “Padrinos” #873-874) Si los Padrinos pertenecen a otra parroquia, tendrán que obtener una carta de recomendación por parte del párroco de esa parroquia.
7. Fees
: There is no fee for Baptism. Parents and Godparents are encouraged to make a donation on the day of the Baptism through the attached envelopes as an expression of gratitude to God for their child.7. Donaciones: No hay honorarios para el Bautizo, pero se puede hacer un donativo en agradecimiento a Dios por la gran bendición de los hijos.
