FAQ's & Schedule |
Welcome to St. Louis School Bingo!
As a parent of a St. Louis School student, your name will automatically be placed on the bingo schedule. This schedule is updated on this website, weekly workers are listed in the church bulletins, and workers for the month are on the school calendar & newsletter.
Answers to some FAQ's:
Why are families asked to work bingo? Don't we already pay tuition?
All families are asked to work to ensure a successful bingo. 100% of bingo revenue goes to support St. Louis School! A strong bingo ensures reasonable, competitive tuition rates year to year. Without this income our rates would nearly double.
How many times will I need to work?
Your family will be on the schedule approximately 6-7 times a year, unless you work a crew (read on...).
What are these 'crews' I keep hearing about?
A bingo crew is a group of families who have agreed to work one full month of the year. If your crew is Sept-May you will also be asked to work one extra shift over the summer as well. Crews cover their own if they have a conflict and cannot meet their bingo obligation. Crews of 10-12 families are closed to new families.
How do I join a crew?
Contact the bingo scheduler immediately and see what month has an opening. You can get a general picture by looking at the current schedule.
What if a month I want to join doesn't have a crew?
Start one! This system is a huge help with our scheduling. Crews are very reliable as they have a set schedule/month to work, so the Bingo Committee is most appreciative! Contact the scheduler immediately for more information.
What if I'm not in a crew and I can't work?
First, look on the bingo schedule and call other families to make a trade immediately. Familiy emergencies cannot be avoided, but "I forgot" really doesn't fly!! Calling the scheduler on Friday afternoon leaves nearly no time to find a replacement for you. We are all adults and the schedule is posted in a variety of locations. Write your work date on your personal calendar as soon as you know it!
When do I need to arrive on my night to work?
Our doors open to players at 5:00pm. You should arrive by 5:30pm to help in the selling of instants to our players. The Bingo Committee takes care of the initial set-up of the Parish Hall (tables, chairs, instants, ATM machine).
How many families are working at bingo each Friday? Do you have 'extra' families on each week?
There are NO extras on the weekly schedule! The Bingo Committee has determined that a MINIMUM of 10 families will run a successful Friday bingo. Only 2 are needed in the kitchen, 6 'on the floor' selling instants, and 3-4 'call back' people. The Bingo Committee is there EVERY Friday- bless them!
When does bingo end?
Bingo play generally ends at about 10:15pm. Workers then bag the trash and enjoy a free meal after the work is finished. Yes, FREE! Think of it as the Bingo Committee's way of thanking you for your volunteer time. You should be on your way by 10:30pm after the clean-up (if you choose not to eat).
Our bingo is held every Friday evening with the exception of Good Friday.
