URGENT PRAYERS NEEDED

Freedom of Choice Act
Please Read This One

An email concerning the Freedom of Choice Act coming before Congress this month is attached.  I cringed when I read it.  It is difficult to believe such actions violating the sanctity of life could even be considered!  more

Please read and pray about this.  shelia

Parishioner Michael Howington's mother, Mrs. Betty Howington, passed Sunday evening.  Michael is in the Sunday night Bible Study and his children are in Religious Education. Pray for the repose of the soul of Mrs. Howington and comfort of her family. Below is information regarding services and Mr Dwight Howington and Michael's addresses:
Visitation 6-8, Wednesday, 1:00-Service time on Thursday
Service: 2 at Funeral Home
Funeral Home: Scot Ward (www.scotward.com)
Dwight and Betty Howington, 1193 Maple Street  Conyers, GA 30013
Michael's address:  235 Forest Street, Jefferson, GA 30549

Carolyn Sheppard asks prayer for her mother, parishioner Ida Bochisshio, who is in extreme pain and seeking medical help to alleviate it.
David Moore,an Auburn minister, is asking for prayers for a local family. He received an email from the brother-in-law of a man who took his life last Saturday.  This man lives in the Auburn area and leaves a wife and children 7, 5 and 2 years old. He had lost his job several months and life was quite a struggle for him.  Pray for the repose of his soul and the comfort and strength of the family.
Randy Kucera has asked for prayers for 21 y/o family friend, Megan Purcell, a recent college graduate who has had a relapse of leukemia from a bone marrow transplant she had undergone a year ago. She is scheduled to endure a second bone marrow transplant this February 12th. Her friends and family are very concerned for her life due to the fact that her chances of surviving the second transplant are not favorable.

Randy also
attached a timely video of a very remarkable homeless man who lives in the Woodruff Park areaof downtown Atlanta.Randy asked close attention be paid to the lyrics. God shows himself inmany forms!  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YL7Qufo7YYA

Thanks,Randy, his words in the video are so true,  and we will pray prayers of healing for Megan. Please keep us posted.

Please include my son Michael in your prayers.  He will be going to the doctor on January 16 for more x-rays which will reveal if he will need another surgery on his leg (he's already had 5); hopefully not!  Prayers are needed.

The latest information I have is that surgery is scheduled for next Monday.

Please everyone crank up the prayers for Cindy Shepherd- She is in Athens Regional Hosp. and has been diagnosed with lesions and a mass on her brain as well as possibly other issues in lower extremities- she hasn’t felt good for a very long time and I’m afraid we need to storm the heavens for her -  Please also pray for Steve and Steven as I’m sure they are beside themselves- Thank you and God Bless- Jo Dawson
Jerry Dietzler needs prayers of solace and comfort.  Pray for Mrs. Margaret as she cares for him.

Mr. Mackin, a long time friend of the Proctors, has been battling cancer for over 20 years and was recently hospitalized.  His condition necessitated being put on a respirator.

Nancy relates Marcia (another friend) is bravely dealing with painful shingles, and recent news the brain cancer is now in a different area than the site where a tumor was removed.  Marcia's husband, Nicholas, is asking for continual prayer for this "super mom and wife" as they all deal with this painful and challenging condition.   Nancy Proctor

Several in the parish have chronic illnesses and/or are caring for loved ones with chronic, medical conditions.  Pray for Kathy Ascunce's son, Kelly, who has had multiple surgeries and complications for almost three years. And, pray for the strength of Kathy and Jorge as they continue to care for Kelly.

Pray for Barbara and Jim McKeever's daughter, Cherie.  She has been partially paralyzed over a year as a result of an accident. There are numerous potential medical complications resulting from this type of condition and Cherie has experienced several this past year. Pray for Barbara and Jim as they continue to care for Cherie and her children.

Both Kelly and Cherie are young and their journeys and that of their immediate family are probably beyond most of our comprehension. Ask for God's healing powers physically, psychologically, and spiritually for all of them.

Remember to send cards and/or give a call to folks who are enduring heavy burdens regardless of the type.  Mother Teresa told us it was the love that went in to an act or gift that made it big, not the cost of it. What a difference there is in cost and value!  We can make a difference in the lives of others in many ways.

Pray the homeless find shelter and warmth during this dangerously cold weather.

Pray for all our parish community and their loved ones.

Continue to pray for our military, their families and for leaders of the world to make policies to enhance peace throughout the world.

Pray for our next President and his administration to act in the best interest of our nation.

Pray for church leaders to remain focused on the primary role of the Church as we were told in the Book of Acts when the Church was birthed: to know Christ and make Him known.  It seems to be easier to lose this concept in our increasingly secular society.

UPDATES

The Memorial Service for parishioner, Emily Oldrid, is this coming Saturday (Dec. 24th) at 10:00AM. There will be a dinner for her family and friends following the service and a rather large group are expected to attend.  If possible, please help with this endeavor by bringing a dish to Hedges Hall before 10:15 Saturday morning.  Also, if you wish to write a message to Emily's family, here is the web site: www.floridamortuary.netHer daughter, Susan Williams, is most grateful for Emily's St Matthew family honoring her with this dinner.  Susan Williams address is: 1466 Riversedge Ct Bethlehem, GA 30620.

I just got an update on the young pregnant mother with cancer, Susan Miller.  She is taking chemotherapy, now.  Her doctor is one who treats pregnant women with cancer so he is in effect treating two patients with the hope of saving them both.  We continue to pray for her daily.

INSPIRATION

Father referenced the old 1800's hymn, What a Friend We Have in Jesus, last Sunday.  The word, friend, means relationship and we must develop a friendship with Jesus through prayer.  He awaits us with open arms!  Regardless of what happens as the song relates, He is our faithful friend Who is with us and can handle all our burdens if we take them to Him in prayer. He is our Hope for surviving this world!  We need to remember the catchy little tune, especially the words, from  the song Randy shared on the video:  “PUT JESUS IN YOUR LIFE, HE HAS PATIENCE FOR YOU.”
shelia

Thank God for all the blessings He gives us, and keep in mind there is nothing so bleak here on earth that He cannot heal.
NEEDS / NECESIDADES

ST. VINCENT de PAUL
St. Vincent de Paul is always in need, but with the current financial situation, they need even more help.  Please help them lend support to the needy in our area.

Jobs
Call the church office if you know of jobs available. As the economy declines more and more folks are in need.  The financial needs often lead to emotional, psychological, marital and spiritual concerns. Ask God to guide you in such a way to help alleviate some of the pain felt so deeply by others at this tumultuous time. The greatest sign of Christian growth is shown when you focus more on others than yourself!
Joys and Concerns Ministry
If you know of someone who needs a "little extra" such as a card, meal, visit, etc. contact Kathleen McIntyre of the Joys and Concerns Ministry
