ST MICHAEL and All Angels Catholic Primary School is described as a good school which has improved over recent years in its latest Ofsted report. The school in Wombwell , Barnsley, provides a very caring environment where all pupils are valued and the school was graded as being good in all areas, including overall effectiveness, achievement and standards, personal development and wellbeing, teaching and learning and leadership and management.
Phew! What a scorcher! Our annual sports day was a super event with all the children taking part in the various athletic events. Taking up several parents suggestion that children should be rewarded with healthy treats, winners of each event won delicious fresh fruit- strawberries and grapes!
Easter
All the children performed a Passion Play in church. Through movement, dance, music and drama they told the story of Jesus' death and resurrection gaining many words of praise from a packed congregation!
The Infants put on a wonderful production called 'Santa's Christmas Story' and the Juniors entertained us all with 'A Victorian Christmas' The three performances were enjoyed by packed audiences!

To understand the past we have to experience it - all the juniors went to Kelham Island museum in Sheffield for the Victorian workhouse theme day...
Visit of Bishop of Hallam
On Monday 11th October we were very honoured to receive a visit from the Bishop of Hallam, John Rawsthorne. He went to talk to the children in each class and shared a cup of coffee with the staff. Friday 11th March certainly was a fun day as everyone made an effort to 'look the part'! Red was in glorious profusion with lots of inventive tee-shirt designs and wierd hairdoos! Over £300 was raised - unbelievable!!
Celebrating the Epiphany
Class 3 led our Epiphany Liturgy wonderfully with dancing, singing and prayers. This joyful occasion was enjoyed by the whole school along with many parents, auntie, uncles and grandparents.
Mission Together Celebration
All the Catholic schools in Barnsley came together in St Michael's Church for a feast of music, mime, drama and verse. Witnessing this was Bishop John Rawsthorn and invited guests...
Ash Wednesday
The children took part in a special liturgy on Ash Wednesday. Last years' palm leaves were burnt by Fr. Brian and the ashes were placed on each persons head as a sign that we are only here for a short time and we must try to live good lives and bring happiness and joy to all we meet...

On Wednesday 29th September, Class 4 presented their assembly on the theme of 'Trees'. Through readings, music and dance they helped us understand the importance of trees for our survival. Parents were very generous in their donations of produce which made a beautiful and striking fruits of the harvest display. Over £100 was raised for CAFOD after the assembly!
What a fantastic feast of music, drama, dance and comedy as during the last week of the summer term these travelling thespians put on a brilliant adventure play based on Ancient Egypt...
Our magnificent Kwick Cricket team returned triumphantly from a cricket tournament held at St. Wilfred's, Sheffield. They won all their matches and gained the praise of everyone for their sporting prowess in beating St. Wilfred's A and B, St, Mary's High Green and St. Thomas of Canterbury. They were presented the trophy by its sponsor Mr R.Davison Deputy Lord Mayor of Sheffield.
What a fantastic day it was one sunny afternoon in July. A very enjoyable afternoon of competitive athletics followed by strawberries and cream, barbeque cuisine and all the fun of the Fayre! There was a bouncy castle, lots of stalls, games, penalty shoot-outs and chucking cold water on innocent victims!!
This was a very competitive football tournament between St. Michael's, Holyrood, Sacred Heart Goldthorpe, St. Joseph's Handsworth, and St. Dominic's. The team did very well winning two games drawing one and losing one...
On Saturday 15th May, the Friends of St. Michael organised a very enjoyable and successful sonsored bike ride at Wombwell Sports Arena. The weather was warm and sunny as 70 riders of all ages did 20 circuits of the Go-Kart track. The whole event was brilliantly organised and everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves!
As part of the " M.P.s Back to School Week", we had a visit from Jeff Ennis M.P last Friday. He had a tour of the school, cut the ribbon to officially open our new playground and spent some time in Class 3 where the children asked him lots of questions...
The last day of term saw the children perform a Passion Play in church called "Have you heard the story?" This was a world premiere of this production with words and music written by our music teacher, Gareth Taylor. Through movement, dance and song this told the story of Jesus' passion and death on the cross...
As part of their history topic Classes 3, 4 and 5 visited Shibden Hall nr. Halifax to learn at first hand about Tudor life...
