The San Lorenzo Ruiz de Manila Church located at the heart of Pleasant Hill Subdivision, San Jose del Monte City, Bulacan was built in a span of three years. Construction began on January 20, 2003 and the Church will now be consecrated and dedicated on January 22, 2006, with Bishop Jose F. Oliveros of the Diocese of Malolos, officiating the ceremonies.
Nestled on a 1000 sq. meter-lot donated by the Ruben Reyes clan, the church was master planned by its first parish priest, Rev. Fr. Mario Jose C. Ladra. It was then built in perfect harmony by Architect Joseph G. Herrera and Engineer Leonardo Nicolas. The entire structure is basically adobe, including the 93-step belfry. Gothic and Roman architectural designs dominate the surroundings, combining the elements of elegance and simplicity. The choir loft, the adoration and reconciliation rooms are of quality workmanship. Old wood from Betis, Pampanga was carved with innovative designs by famed artist Rolando Flores. The life story of San Lorenzo Ruiz is depicted in the carved front doors and in glossy stained glass windows, conspicuously adorning the upper walls of the church. The “retablo” (Main Altar) is basically Filipino motif, one of its kind in the Philippines. Sawali and antique yakal wood lend a touch of bliss and serenity. Enhanced by the “pulpito”, it is a testament to the simple charm of a pastoral community.
Pre-dedication and consecration activities are now underway to prepare the whole parish (composed of 6 different sub-parishes) for this grand and sacred occasion. Everyone in the parish is invited for this once-in-a-lifetime celebration of community faith, life and thanksgiving which will be graced by a multitude of generous benefactors, sponsors, and donors who had been blessed and touched by God and had unselfishly chosen to share their time, talent and treasure in order that this miracle edifice could be built in a very short time.
