Learn More About Us
The Diocese of Lexington operates 17 schools in Eastern Kentucky, and serves 4300 students in its fifteen elementary and two high schools. The 17 schools are located throughout the diocese, in 13 counties. In the eighteen years of the existence of the Diocese of Lexington, school enrollment has increased over 30%. Approximately 25% of the students are not of the Catholic faith. This diversity allows us to stress respect for all faiths, while at the same time, explaining and teaching our beliefs. Prayer and the teaching of values and morals are part of the curriculum. The schools maintain an excellent academic program, challenging students to reach their potential. Standardized tests are given yearly to help us determine the efficacy of our academic programs and to plan for the needs of our students. The average student percentile grade in the major subject areas of reading, language and mathematics is over 75%. The national average percentile is 50%. All schools are accredited through the Kentucky Non-Public School Commission. Some also are accredited through other agencies as well. Teachers are certified by the State of Kentucky. Seton Catholic School opened this year. This opening culminates the dreaming and planning that has gone into this project for many years. The school enrollment for Seton Catholic School is 321 students in grades PK to 8. This school was sorely needed so that the Diocese of Lexington may continue to offer a Catholic education to those who choose it.
