Reflection

Our mental and spiritual health depends a lot on knowing that we are loved.  Who are the most important people in your life?  Why?  How do you love them by serving  them?  To who are you important?  Why?  How do those people love you by serving you?

Tell one important person in your life how much you love him or her by offering to do something helpful.

"If anyone wishes to be the first, he shall be the last of all  and the servant of all.”  Mark 9:35   How people respond to the question, “Who wants to be first?” often depends on whether the activity involved is pleasant or unpleasant; a treat or a task; to give or to receive something good or valuable.  A teacher with a bag of candy in front of a class of young students who ask “Who wants to be first?” will likely see a sea of wildly waving hands and shouts of “Pick me!” and “Me first!”  A teacher who has given an assignment to memorize a chapter of a Shakespearian play who ask the same question is likely not to see any hands at all and eyes looking down at the desk. When we are challenged to be the servant of all and to respond to God’s generosity to us by sharing our time, our talents, our abilities, our gifts, and our resources, do we shout “Pick me!” and rush to be the first?  Or do we turn away or turn on the television; go out to our favorite watering hole and hang with our friends; go fishing or play tennis or golf; or spend hours texting our BFF’s?   Jesus is watching how we react and he can get our phone bills.    Bulletin Bites

Every year on the third Sunday of September we celebrate Catechetical Sunday.  This year's theme is 'Catechesis and the Proclamation of the Word."  We honor catechists and their service to the ministry of the Word.   Joyce Wheeler, Kate Grapes, Ann Stuller, Beth Gripp, and Jean Jansen are the full time catechist.  Karen Obermyer, Nancy Kissinger, Bob Blencoe, Tina Moser & Catherine Grapes have agreed to assist.  All under the leadership of Sue Myer.  We are asking for your prayers and your assistance.  Through Baptism we are called to proclaim God's Word through our daily words and actions and to keep God's Word alive in our hearts and community.

We are now in our 4th week of classes in space we have never had in the 42 years history of this parish.  We have 22 eager children to learn the teachings of Jesus and the number seems to be growing each week.  But these women only have them for one hour - less if they are not on time each week.  You as parents and grandparents are their primary teacher.  If children take only one class of reading and one class of math at school each week, how much would they learn?  Would these children be proficient readers?  Would these children be able to manage basic mathematical calculations?  It stands to reason, than that if our faith is the most important part of our lives and the key to our love of Jesus, faith formation requires time and attention beyond a weekly learning session.

Today these women and men were commissioned and we ask you  to support them in your daily prayers, to have your children on time and encourage and participate in their daily journey with Jesus.

"Pick Me":  We will begin the first of a series of a six week programs beginning Oct. 11th entitled "Why Catholic" at 12:30.  If we have enough interest we may have a second time, agreeable with the group.  This is for anyone in the parish that wishes to learn more about your faith.  There is a sign-up sheet located in the "old" fellowship hall on the bulletin board next to the kitchen.  Deadline is NEXT Sunday, in order to allow enough time for the books to arrive.

Cleaning:  The first Saturday of each month we do a thorough cleaning of the church, narthex, bathrooms etc.  Each month the numbers have been dropping to help.  If you cannot be here on that day but would be willing to come over and help please see Catherine and she will arrange to let you in.  Valerie and Frank Vargo have agreed to oversee this ministry if you should have any questions.

Also now that religious education has begun we would like to have someone to come over once a month and vacuum the classrooms and empty the trash (the teachers have enough to do).  This does not have to be every month it could be just one time and you could make it a family affair and agree to do it for the month and chose the month.

Aprons:  If you would like an apron with the church logo and your name embroider, there are order forms in the hall.  Cost is $10.00.

Choir:  There is a sign-up sheet for choir for the Christmas season on the bulletin board in the old fellowship hall.  Rehearsals will begin in the middle of October.  Questions see Henriette Whitehead.

Mexican Fiesta will be Oct. 24th and lots of help is needed.  Please see the sign-up sheet also in the old fellowship hall.  Questions see Tina Moser, Veronica Lopez or Maria Gonzalez.

Food for the Needy:

The basket in the hall is getting pretty empty.
