Shrine of St. Francis Xavier & Our Lady of Guadalupe at 250 Brown Street SE, Grand Rapids, MI 49507 US - About Statue of Our Lady of Guadalupe at the Shrine

About Statue of Our Lady of Guadalupe at the Shrine LA VERGEN MORENA

Our Lady in Residence at the Shrine
The Shrine of Saint Francis Xavier and Our Lady of Guadalupe is a beautiful place to visit. Our mission is to share the life and wisdom of St. Francis Xavier. This great apostle taught us that to be good we have to be pilgrims, for heaven is our home. It is our hope that pilgrims will encounter the beauty and warmth of LA VERGEN MORENA. The 9-foot-tall, half-ton wood statue was carved in Tepozotlan, Mexico, by José Antonio Silvia for Father Quintana's St. Francis Xavier parish in Grand Rapids. It was blessed July 31 by Pope John Paul II after he canonized Juan Diego and was kept beneath the miraculous tilma of Juan Diego in the Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe until the Michigan pastor and his parishioners loaded it into a van Aug. 18 for the long trip home. The Shrine was dedicated September 7, 2002.
