Sacred Heart of Jesus Capital Campaign at 156 Valley SW, Grand Rapids, MI 49504 US - Sacred Heart Building Committee Selects General Contractor

Sacred Heart Building Committee Selects General Contractor

Sacred Heart Finance and Capital Campaign Committees are happy to announce that we have contracted with Owens Ames and Kimball (OAK) Company of Grand Rapids for the first phase repairs to Sacred Heart. On Friday April 9th, a meeting of the Sacred Heart Building Committee was called to interview three possible contractors. Vos Construction, Earhart Construction and OAK were all interviewed. Members of the Building Committee in attendance were Fr. Ed Hankiewicz, David Arbanas (Finance Chair), Dean Pacific, Bob Gilewski, Bernie Stanko, Jake Jacobus, John Van Dam, Ed Kuberski, Alister Brown and Jack Shultz. Absent and excused were John Anding and Mary Lynn Arbanas.  After all contractor presentations were made, a vote was taken, and by a count of 9 to 1 OAK was selected. The Architect was notified. Contracts and plans are being developed.

As many of you heard in the March state of the parish finance meetings, the deterioration of the south bell tower is worse than expected. Just because we are starting construction, it does not mean that we are done with the capital campaign. This construction is required to keep the church safe for parishioners.  Read and see more about the state of the capital campaign here.

OAK has been in business since 1891. OAK has created the landmark buildings of West Michigan for over a century.  OAK has been involved in restoring and updating historical treasures that include the Ryerson Library and the Grand Rapids Civic Theatre. They have also been involved in inspiring contemporary designs, such as the conservatory at Frederik Meijer Gardens and the Kent County Courthouse.

OAK has been the primary contractor for the following Catholic churches:

Saint Marys

Saint Adalbert

Holy Spirit

Saint Sebastian

Assumption Belmont

Saint Jude

Click on the church name for more information on each project.

More specific dates and information will follow soon.
