Happy New Year!
Welcome back! It is exciting to begin a new calendar year with the students and we are adjusting to writing 2010 in our school agendas! I hope that all of you are enjoying a happy and healthy 2010.

January brings many exciting events at St. Joe's. Here are a few highlights:

The end of the month brings the beginning of Catholic Schools Week (including Basket Bingo), which allows us to celebrate our Catholic identity and the fact that a Catholic education is to be celebrated.

- Religion- We finish out the Christmas season and begin ordinary time, which gives us a chance to explore the love and the gifts that God offers us everyday!

-English- We will begin learning about nouns and explore the writing process.

- Math- We will continue to work on our math facts, focusing on subtraction and solving word problems using addition and subtraction.

- Reading- This is an exciting month in reading because we are beginning to learn about long vowels!! We will begin with long 'a' and move on from there. The skill of reading long vowels will open your child's mind and develop their reading skills to be able to read more challenging stories!

-Science and Social Studies- We will continue to study matter and the three types of matter. We will also begin working on map skills.

I am looking forward to an exciting winter in our classroom.

Keep warm and God Bless,

Mrs. Makruski
