RCIA-RCIC

Are you interested in becoming Catholic or learning more about the faith? Then, RCIA-RCIC is just for you.

RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults) and RCIC (Rite of Christian Initiation for Children) will meet Sundays, beginning October 4, from 9:30-10:30 a.m. in the St. Michael School Cafeteria. 

RCIA-RCIC includes several stages marked by study, prayer and rites at Mass. Participants will undergo a process of conversion as they study the Gospel, profess faith in Jesus and the Catholic Church, and receive the sacraments of baptism, confirmation and Holy Eucharist. RCIA-RCIC is open to adults and children, ages 8-16, who have not been baptized or who are baptized in another religion and want to become Catholic.

What is RCIA-RCIC?

RCIA  and RCIC is for adults and children (ages 8-16), either non-baptized, who wish to join the Catholic Church and receive the sacraments, or baptized (Catholic or another religion), who have not received the sacraments. The non-baptized are known as catechumens. The baptized as candidates.

What is required of participants?

In addition to regular attendance of weekly RCIC meetings, all participants are required to attend all scheduled rites which are part of four steps of RCIC. They include the Rite of Acceptance, Rite of Sending, Rite of Election, First Scrutiny, Second Scrutiny and Third Scrutiny, all held on Sundays. Dates and times of most of these activities are listed on a schedule which is posted on the parish website. Dates and times of the Rite of Sending and Rite of Election will be announced.

Participants who are baptized Catholic or another religion need to provide a copy of their baptismal certificate.

Participants also are required to have a sponsor (godparent if participant is not baptized) who is an active member of the Catholic Church (either at St. Michael or another parish.) The sponsor/godparent is required to be present at the Easter Vigil as well as those mentioned above. If a participant is unable to find a sponsor/godparent, please let your catechist know and one will help the participant find one. Sponsors are required to be active members of the Catholic Church and to have received their Confirmation and First Communion.

When will participants receive the sacraments?

Participants will receive the sacraments at the Easter Vigil Mass on Saturday, April 3, 2009 at 8:30 p.m.at St. Michael Catholic Church.

Non-baptized participants  will receive the sacraments of Baptism, Eucharist, and, when applicable, Confirmation. The Sacrament of Reconciliation (also known as Confession or Penance) is received after Easter.

Baptized  will enter the Church by making a Profession of Faith. They will receive the sacraments of Eucharist and, when applicable, Confirmation. They will receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation before Easter on Saturday, March 27 at 11 a.m. in St. Michael Church.
