St. Monica - St. George Faith Formation at 328 W. McMillan St., Cincinnati, OH 45219 US - Policies and Procedures

Policies and Procedures
Date Posted: November 1, 2004

Mass: Regular attendance at mass is one of the most important aspects of your child's faith development. Please take your child to mass regularly! Prayer: Prayer is another vital dimension of your child's religious growth. At a minimum, your child should know, or be learning, basic prayers like the Our Father, Hail Mary, and the Prayer of Sorrow (or Act of Contrition, as it used to be called). Please help your child learn these, if he or she does not yet know them. Communication: Please maintain regular communication with your child's catechist regarding your child's progress, behavior, needs, etc. If you have any general questions or concerns, please call  381-6400.  Attendance: While we recognize that occasional absences may be unavoidable, it is important that your child attend class regularly in order to benefit fully from the program. There is a continuity from week to week which is lost if your child does not attend. Also, it makes the catechist's job more difficult if she or he has to work with "part-time" students. Discipline: Children are expected to behave in an appropriate manner for the one hour a week they are in our program. You, as parent or guardian, are expected to make it clear to your child that good behavior is expected of him or her, and you are expected to take appropriate action to ensure that this is the case. It is not fair to the catechist or to the other children to spend most of their class time dealing with a particular child's behavioral problems. Textbooks: Textbooks normally should remain at the parish. If you wish to take your child’s textbook home, that is okay – but PLEASE make sure your child brings it for class the following week. Homework: Homework in a formal sense is not normally assigned, although there may be take-home activities given to the children at the discretion of your child's catechist. In any case, you as parent/guardian are expected to keep informed of what your child is learning, and to reinforce the learning process. Registration fee: The registration fees help to offset the cost of books and other expenses. However, if you cannot afford the registration fee, or cannot pay it all at once, that is not a problem – we welcome your participation in the program regardless of your financial status. Parent participation: Please feel free to visit your child's class. However, we do ask that you let your child's catechist know in advance that you will be visiting.
