Why Adult Faith Formation?
Sometimes we assume that once we are confirmed, our faith growth is complete. Not so! We may be finished with religious education classes in a formal sense, but faith growth is a lifelong process that embraces many dimensions of our being. A healthy spiritual life can help us grow in our relationships with God, with our families and communities, and with ourselves! The Adult Faith Formation offerings at St. Monica—St. George offer just a few possibilities for continued spiritual development.
Who Can Participate?
Anyone! All adults (and young adults!) are welcome to join us for any of our Adult Faith Formation programs. You do not need to be a member of the parish; in fact, you do not even need to be Catholic. All we ask is that you be open to exploring your own spiritual growth.
But I'm Too Busy!
All right, we do understand and respect the fact that most people are quite busy these days. That’s why we have a number of options for Adult Faith Formation, most of which don’t require a large commitment of time. And we are confident that if you honestly evaluate your own schedules, you will find that you can make a little bit of time for your spiritual side!
What, When, Where?
There is no fixed schedule for our Adult Faith Formation programs, since many of the programs are of a short term nature, or are offered on an occasional basis, or may be adapted to meet the schedules of a particular group of people. Information on upcoming programs will be posted in the parish bulletin, in the monthly Faith Formation newsletters (available in the entrances of the church), and on the web site. Listed below are some of the programs that are currently planned for the upcoming year.
Bible Study
One of the most important and rewarding types of faith formation that we can engage in is Bible Study - breaking open the inspired Word of God! We will be offering short-term bible study series at different times during the year (Advent, Easter, and summer). If your schedule does not allow you to join us for our programs here at the parish, we will be happy to offer suggestions on how you can study the bible more effectively at home.
Workshops and Presentations
We also offer a variety of workshops, presentations, and seasonal faith formation opportunities.
ChurchChats
ChurchChats are an informal way of building community by gathering in the homes of different parishioners to discuss what is going well and what ways we can more effectively be an expression of the Body of Christ. They take place periodically in different areas of the larger community. If you might be interested in participating in a ChurchChat, or in hosting one, please call Ann Boltz in the parish office for more information.
Women’s Spirituality Group
Using the journal Weavings as a springboard for discussion and prayer, this group will meet the last Friday of the month. There are two large group presentations also planned: an Advent Evening for Women, on Tuesday, December 6, featuring dinner, prayer, and a presentation; and an Easter Morning Retreat for Women, on April 29. All women are invited to participate in any session. Come, you’ll be welcomed! For more information, please contact Ann Boltz in the parish office.
