Youth Ministry Update form (all ym contacts and national folks--please complete)
The Charity and Social Service Award -- New!
Who: sophomores and juniors in high school (during the 09-10 school year)--individuals AND groupsWhat: youth engaged in the "works of mercy, i.e., charitable actions, by which they come to the aid of their neighbor in his/her spiritual and bodily necessities" (CCC 2447). (So, both the seven corporal and the seven spiritual works of mercy.) The need to be helped can be of either body or soul.
How: candidates (individual or group) are to submit a visual presentation of no less than 2, no more than 3 minutes, either as a video or a PowerPoint/Slide presentation.
When: submissions are due to our diocese (either Leigh Sterten or Don Emge) by November 15, 2009, at the absolute latest. Submit via email to: LSterten@dioscg.org or DEmge@dioscg.org. Or mail CD to: Charity and Social Service Award, The Catholic Center, 601 S Jefferson Ave, Springfield MO 65806.
The prize: five national winners will receive a paid trip to DC for the awards ceremony on April 11, 2010. This includes, travel, room, and board, but if the award goes to a group, only one person's expenses are covered; others may come at their own expense.

- Camp St Vincent in Fredericktown had a lot of storm damage, but camp is on, thanks to a lot of great volunteers. Donations are welcome to assist in clean up and rebuilding.
- Looking for a retreat team? Check out Net Ministries, who send teams of young adults across the country for daylong and overnight retreats.
- Check out the new website for River of Life TEC, located in the eastern section of the diocese!
- Fr. Salvain is STILL trying to raise money for his parish in Rwanda. If you'd like to donate, contact Leigh. Neosho has undertaken a Rwanda project, so keep your eyes on The Mirror for news about that! Today, I received a check for over $1500 to send to Rwanda, all from the Neosho parish--how amazing is that? Thanks, St. Canera!
- The 2009 NCYC (youth conference) will be in KANSAS CITY, MO, November 19-22! Our group is set, but if you missed the boat, we'll add you to the waiting list. Materials and forms are posted here for group leaders.
- FoodFast materials are available from Catholic Relief Services and they are great and free!
