I take this opportunity to welcome you to the Cathedral Basilica of SS.
Peter and Paul. Our beautiful Cathedral is the Mother Church of the
Archdiocese of Philadelphia. This
magnificent Church has welcomed visitors since 1864. Thousands of visitors
visit us every year from near and far. Everyone is taken by the great artistic
beauty of the Church. Countless numbers stop into the cathedral during the day
just to pray and to enjoy the quiet, prayerful atmosphere.
Enjoy our
website. Our history tells our story in great detail. I look forward to meeting
many of you when you come to Philadelphia.

For Those Interested in a Cathedral Wedding
To those planning weddings, we offer warm congratulations and prayerful best wishes! Any Catholic person in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia is permitted to be married in the Cathedral Basilica with a letter of permission from their Parish Priest. Those from outside the Archdiocese also need the permission of their Parish Priest. For those from outside the Archdiocese, arrangements for Marriage Preparation at your local Parish must also be made. For all couples planning weddings, fulfillment of the requirements of Church Law and Archdiocesan policies is necessary.
Couples interested in seeking to arrange a wedding date are asked to obtain a letter of permission and to contact the Cathedral Rectory at 215-561-1313 (1723 Race Street, Philadelphia, PA 19103-1204) to arrange an appointment with one of the Priests to discuss possible dates as well as the process involved for a Catholic wedding. For those couples from outside the Cathedral Parish, we must urgently request that you ask your Parish Priest or a Priest friend to witness your wedding. We have a tremendous number of requests for marriages at the Basilica and could not attend to all of them. In the case of genuine need, we will do our best to assist.
Upon confirmation of an actual date, we do request that a deposit of $250 be given towards the stipend/offering for the Cathedral Basilica.
May God bless you in every way at this very important time in your life!
