Sts. Philip and James Religious Education at One Carow Place, St. James, NY 11780 US - IMPORTANT SAFETY NOTICE!!

IMPORTANT SAFETY NOTICE!!

SEPTEMBER 2009:
Dear Parents: We bring the following safety situation, based upon personal observations and those of some concerned parents and catechists, to your attention: During relgious education class time, some parents either park or sit in their cars along the curb in front of the school and church buildings while waiting for their childre to come from class. There is absolutely no parking or standing of cars permitted on either side of Clinton Avenue in front of the school and church buildings. This creates a safety hazard as it encourages other children to cross the street from between two parked/standing cars into the flow of oncoming traffic. The time change now has most classes taking place while it is dark making this situation even more dangerous. Also, cars parked in this area would prevent ambulances or fire trucks from direct access to either building in the event of an emergency. Parents already have been asked to park their cars in the church parking lot and come into the building to bring their child home. Children in grades 2 and 3 are not permitted to leave the classroom unless a parent/guardian or another responsible adult is there to take them home. Also, please exit the school building by the fron doors/main entrance ONLY. The other exits are locked at all times for security reasons. When used to exit, they do not click shut unless pushed, leaving those exits unlocked overnight. Please advise anyone who is picking up your child(ren) of these safety procedures. Life is hectic, we know. For many picking up children from religion class is one activity on a list of many before arriving home after a long day. Our goal is provide a safe environment for your children. Parking your car and coming into the building may take a few extra minutes. Won't you please help us to keep the children of our parish safe? Thank you, Fr. Tony Stanganelli (Pastor) Lorraine Cortina (Coordinator of Religious Ed)
