Grade 1 Room 6 at St. Albert the Great School, Kettering, OH 45429 US - FYI

Welcome to First Grade 2009-2010   Here are some reminders for parents!!

1.  Label all items such as sweaters, sweatshirts, lunchboxes etc.  Lost and found is located near the church basement.

2.  Check your child's folder each day and review papers with your student  as much as possible.

3.  Homework will be given every Monday and Wednesday.  PLEASE return Monday homework on Tuesday and Wednesday homework on Thursday.   It is important to be responsible.

4.  Students may purchase BREAKFAST for $1.35  from the cafeteria each morning during snack time. This will be charged to your account as are the lunches. I will take their breakfast order each day.   Consult the menu for daily menu changes.  Lunches are $2.40.  Please note when your account is empty it is important to respond to those needs.

5.  Have your student dress appropriately for the weather.  We  will be going out for recess as much as possible.

6.   The children are to wait for the morning bell to ring in the cafeteria before entering the classroom.  We are trying to develop skills that will make responsible and independent children!  I promise they are in good hands!

7.  Replace school supplies when needed.  They will bring home a supply list sheet telling you what supplies are needed.

8.  Spelling tests are every  Friday.  These will begin sometime in September.  Please help your child study these words.  They will bring home a list each Monday with their new words.  Consult my webpage for these words also.

9.  Encourage respect and good manners always!  We will be following the 7 STEPS TO SUCCESS with rewards and consequences in the classroom.  Please check out those steps on my webpage.

10.  Spend time reading with and to your child each day.   They are many things to read around us besides just our books.  Read everything with them you see!

11.  Please have your student wear gym shoes on gym days.  We go to gym every Wednesday and Friday.    Also,  girls should wear shorts under their uniform jumpers for gym.

12. Your student will be working on the Accelerated Reading Program this year.  You can check out the Library Web Page for the list of Accelerated Books.  I will be testing your student on STAR to determine their reading level.  I will initally send home AR books in their AR folder for them to read however feel free to let them choose books on their own.  The test result will also be included in their folder.  The folder with AR book msut be returned before a new one is given.  We won't start this program for at least a month.  We also work on Math Facts in a Flash.  That too is a computerized program to help them build up speed wiht their math facts.

13.  Please check my Web Page often during the week.  This is my way of communication on what is happening and what you need to know.  I try not to run off calendars, etc.  It's all on my webpage and I do keep it current.  Thanks!

 14.   Children may bring in jump ropes, balls or any playground toys they want to use out on recess.  They can keep them here at school until the end of the year.  You might want to label them.   Let's not have the girls bring in their dolls for recess!  Again, please do not have your child bring in Game Boys either! 

15.   Kettering bus riders may NOT take a friend home on their bus.  If you want to invite someone over, you will have to transport them yourself. 

17.  Please be on time!

18.  Enforce the uniform code, please!

19.  Birthdays are special!  You may bring in birthday treats for morning snack time.  Please keep them simple.

20.  PTO send home school newsletters and important information in a brown manila envelope each Monday.  Please return the envelope so each week you can receive new news!

21.  We go to Mass each Wednesday at 8:30.  We will have a 3rd grade buddy from Mrs. Allen's 3rd Grade class to sit with us.   Faith Families are being planned also! 

22.  Grandparents' Day will be Wednesday, March 24.  Mark your calendars!

Friday:  Art with Mrs. Becker 8:50-9:35
