Dear Parents,
Welcome to December! Can you believe Christmas is right around the corner? We are preparing ourselves by doing good deeds each day and placing them in our Advent cribs. We are also counting the weeks on our Advent wreaths we each made.
We are reading so much in class and learning so many phonics and grammar rules. Keep them reading at home also. We are still working on short vowels but we will really get into our study on long vowels. We will be reading many long vowel books to go along with them. We continue to read for AR, read our leveled readers and read from our reader. My classroom has many centers and reading programs for the children to build comprehension and review phonics. We continue to work on our writing skills as well. I have discussed with the children that when we visit the library each Wednesday, I want them to check out AR books on their level. That way they can chose books they enjoy reading.
This month in Math we will begin the study of place vslue and the numbers to 100. Continue to review the addition and subtraction facts at home to build up speed. We will continue doing Math Facts in a Flash in class.
In Religion we will be seeing how the Holy Spirit is our helper. We will talk about the Church seasons and the Church's Celebrations.
.
I will be working on Values for a Lifetime all year. This month we will cover Honesty and Humor. I will be reading stories from the Bible that shows these values as well as reading many books where the message will be the virtue. It should be a nice program for the children.
Enjoy this busy time of year!
